Updated to 2.5.8 - Fatal Error

by bobjones » Fri Jun 30, 2017 7:21 am

I am updating text on a tour for a client.

My updates were fine in the previous version (2.5.7?) I always keep up to date.

Now when I build I get a black screen: FATAL ERROR: ....messages_en.xml - xml parsing failed!

I deleted all tour files and let it rebuild again. Same thing.

Ugh...

When you build you get the black screen? Or when you view the tour? How are you viewing it?
Can you show me a screenshot of the window with the error?

Is this with an older project or a new one for 2.5.8?

Updating text in a tour originally created in 2015 for a client.

I was working on it in 2.5.7 a few days ago without problem.

Black screen when I preview the tour at http://localhost:31415/virtual-tour.html in chrome.

I can PM you the file.

Hm. What shows on the screen if you drag and drop that file into your browser? It should say which line/column the issue is at.

And could you provide me with the problematic file please.

Have you edited the messages.xml file in any way?
When writing your descriptions, are you copying that text from somewhere? Like a word document?

This description worked fine in 2.5.7? Or did you add it in 2.5.8?

It would be kind of silly and time consuming to manually write in the descriptions for everything.

It's just text.

I'm pasting in from a google doc the client sent me with new information they want updated in the tour.

This is new information I added in 2.5.8

Then try removing the formatting in the description field and rebuild. You can recreate the formatting using the editor.

When you copy text from a text editor like Word you aren't just copying over the text or basic formatting but also some extra information and tags that can cause issues with the description field.

DescriptionS.

Previous version saved before works in 2.5.8.

Will paste into text wrangler to remove the formatting and then paste into Panotour.

Thanks for your help.
