A bug in the website box plugin of PtP?

by pgielen » Tue Jan 05, 2016 1:42 pm

A customer just pointed me to a possible bug in the standard website popup plugin of PtP.
It can be demonstrated when navigating to the page: http://bakerandmoore.bubblefishtest.nl

This is a responsive company website (still on the test server); the width is adjusted according to the width of the screen you are visiting the website on.

Now, on (almost) the bottom of the page, the is a banner linked to the virtual tour of Baker & Moore (it links to http://virtualtours.nl/panorama/baker/).

If you open the tour, navigate inside the café and click on an 'I' hotspot, a popup box opens in which a page of the website is shown.

The popup and the website both react responsively to the width of the browser window, like they should

So far so good. But unfortunately, this does not work on mobile devices. When I open the exact same tour in my phone, go inside and click on an 'I' hotspot, a popup box opens in which the website of the café is shown full width. So I have to scroll sideways to see it.

This makes the popup unusable, especially on mobile devices, where responsiveness is most needed.

. Is this a bug in the plugin? Is it possible to make a quick workaround, for example:
- if on laptop or pc open the site in the website box
- if of mobile devices open the site in a new browser window

Any ideas?

Pierre

Have you set a max height and width for the website for mobile display? (in the advanced settings).

I have same problem

responsive www page: http://getbootstrap.com/
test tour: http://www.test.petrseifert.cz/

On PC (Change the width of the browser) is OK, but in mobile/tablet not. I try change all parameters in advance section without result (I cant set "Max scrollable width for mobile/tablet devices" to 320px because on tablet looks awful). Website plugin is uncompatible with responsive pages in mobile/tablet.

I have also tried setting the max width for mobile browsers, but noticed that in stead of using the max width as a real maximum, this setting is used by PtP as a fixed width. E.g. if I set the max width to 640, this is used in a mobile browser independ of the real screen width. Wether I put the phone in portrait or landscape mode does not matter, the width is always 640 pixels. Maybe we don't need a seperate mobile setting for the website box at all and let the browser on a phone or tablet respond the same way it does when visiting a 'normal' responsive website?

I am beginning to think the unresponsiveness on mobile devices is due to the webbox using an iframe to load content in. One solution would be if we had the choice to set not only one maximum with for all mobile devices, but separate max widths for phones (320) and tablets (800). Can this be done?

What I have done eventually, is use the wiki on how to set two tours on the same server with redirection (http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/view/Panotour_-_Advanced_-_Different_interfaces_for_different_devices).

I have set the maximum width for the website box plugin in the desktop and tablet version to 800 and in the mobile version to 320.

It's not a very elegant solution, but for now, this works.
