It takes forever to start APG

by leifs » Sun Apr 16, 2017 10:00 pm

Win 7 ultimate 64bit , 2x Xeon 2660, 128GB RAM
The PTP 2.5 has had this malady, but I have exptected it to be fixed by the the next version.

Now I've "upgraded" APG from 4.2 to 4.4, it adds the same malady to APG !
My PC got 32 kernels, and as shown in the image 1 of the 32 kernels is working at 100%. the rest are idling ! now it's been like that for 30 minutes ! not 30 seconds, minutes ! last time I tried it ended after hours !
It was like that with PTP 2.5, but not APG 4.2. Now its like that in APG also and I'm pissed !!

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply (vacation).
In the Preferences, General tab, can you set the maximum memory used to 32GB, restart and test.
Did it work properly with a previous version?

Thanks in advance,
Olivier

I've done som trials, and it goes like this:
start APG 4.4 - abort by "end process" after 30 minutes !!
start APG 4.4 - 4 seconds, exit
start APG 4.4 - abort by "end process" after 10 minutes !!
and so on

I tried to reduce the "memory used" from 113GB to 31GB, but it didn't save.
ok, exit, restart, and the "memory used" are still 113GB

regards
leifs

btw:
PTP: 32GB -> 22sec, 117GB -> 5min55sec startup time !

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. Does this issue only happen with APG and PTP? Can you also try to reduce
Also, can you give me the computer brand and model, the video card brand and model.
Do you have any bloatware you can uninstall? This issue can be due to a driver/app conflict.
By the way, you confirm that PTP starts faster when you decrease the memory used, but not with APG 4.4 because the value you entered is not saved after you retsrat the app, right? Is it the same with APG 4.2?

One thing you can check is the status of your hard drive once Windows has booted and before you launch an app. What is the hard drive utilization? Around 15 or 20%, more or less?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Olivier

The questions regarding the PC is answered in the attachment.
video card: Gainward GeForce GTX 970, 3 monitors

"Does this issue only happen with APG and PTP?" yes
additional problem:
it is not possible to run PTP and APG simultainously with both given max memory. they crash. maybe they cannot handle more then 32 GB RAM, or they use the same memory above 32GB. hardcoded ?

the boot drive are a Samsung SSD 840 pro, mostly idle
the work drive are a 256GB OCZ Revodrive3 X2

Thanks for all the details.

My 1st phrase was not finished, sorry. So, can you try to reduce the memory used and set it to 32GB (Preferences, General tab, Memory used field). Let cache division value to "Auto".
Close and relaunch the app and check if the value has been kept. Then, make a try and let me know.

Thanks for your efforts.

Best,
Olivier
