Install Papywizard on Nokia 770

This page describes all the steps needed to install Papywizard on a Nokia 770, N800 or N810.

Introduction

In order to run Papywizard, one needs to use at least a device with OS2007 (OS2008 is OK).

Nokia 770

This device is the first Internet Tablet made by Nokia. It is a very good device, but suffers from a lack of developpement from Nokia, which quickly switched to the N800 and N810. The default firmware is OS2006, which does not support python, needed to run Papywizard. So, the first step is to upgrade to OS2007HE (Hacker Edition).

Flash the 0S2007HE firmware

Add Extras catalogue (for python)

  • start the Application Manager
  • tap the menu Tools > Application catalog...
  • double-tap maemo Extras
  • uncheck disabled

If the catalogue is not already there, add a new catalogue entry with the following params: 

Name         Maemo extra 
Address      http://repository.maemo.org/extras 
Distribution bora
Component    free non-free

Add Hackers catalogue (for osso-xterm)

  • start the Application Manager
  • add a new catalogue entry with the following params: 
Name         Maemo hackers 
Address      http://maemo-hackers.org/apt 
Distribution bora
Component    main

Install needed packages

  • install the package godmod.deb by clicking http://blog.2blocksaway.com/files/godmode.deb from the Nokia navigator (need an ethernet connection)
  • from the Application Manager, install osso-xterm
  • launch osso-xterm, then run the following commands: 
$ sudo gainroot
# apt-get install python2.5-runtime

N800

Add Extras catalogue (for python)

  • start the Application Manager
  • tap the menu Tools > Application catalog...
  • double-tap maemo Extras
  • uncheck disabled

If the catalogue is not already there, add a new catalogue entry with the following params:

Install needed packages

  • from the Application Manager, install maemo-python-device-env

N810

Add Extras catalogue (for python)

  • start the Application Manager
  • tap the menu Tools > Application catalog...
  • double-tap maemo Extras
  • uncheck disabled

  • from the Application Manager, install maemo-python-device-env
