This page describes all the steps needed to install Papywizard on a Nokia 770, N800 or N810.

Version française

Introduction

In order to run Papywizard your Nokia Internet Tablet must run OS2007 or later.

As supplied the Nokia 770 runs OS2006 and must be upgraded to OS2007HE before installing Papywizard. The Nokia 770 cannot run OS2008.

The N800 was originally supplied with OS2007 but will run all versions of OS2008. It is recommended that you upgrade your N800 to the latest version of OS2008 before installing Papywizard. It will run faster and be more stable than when running OS2007.

The N810 was shipped with OS2008. It is recommended that you update your N810 to the latest version of OS2008 before installing Papywizard.

The N800 and N810 run the same versions of OS2008. The basic/core hardware of the N800 and N810 is very similar but the N810 has a slide out keyboard and has only one removable card slot and 2GB internal storage; the N800 has two removable card slots instead, and no slide out keyboard.

The Papywizard program is written using the Python programming language. You must install the Python 2.5 runtime before installing the Papywizard program.

The process of installing the Python 2.5 runtime differs depending on the model of Nokia Internet tablet you have and the version of the Linux-derived Maemo operating system it is running (OS2006, OS2007 or OS2008).

Nokia 770

The Nokia 770 was the first of a series of Internet Tablet handheld computers made by Nokia. The Nokia 770 is a very good device, but it suffered from a lack of development by Nokia, who quickly switched their development efforts to the newer N800 and N810 Internet Tablets.

The original firmware (the Linux-derived Maemo operating system and standard applications) is OS2006, which does not support the Python 2.5 runtime, which is required to run Papywizard. So, the first step is to update the firmware to OS2007HE (HE stands for Hacker Edition).
