How to convert 6 flat videos to a panoramic video?

by AV2000 » Thu Apr 26, 2018 3:38 pm

Dear Autopano Gurus,

Recently I made a few 2D videos using different programming languages and programs. Now I got a new idea, what if I make same videos but as 360 degree videos.

After some exploring the Net, I found that there is such a thing like GoPro Omni which is technically is a rig of 6 camers watching each direction as 6 sides of a dice. Autopano is used to get all the videos and stitch them into one. It gave me an idea to make 6 animations as if they are shot by 6 cameras and to use Autopano to make 360 degree video.

I prepared 6 videos as if they were shot by virtual cameras. All the 6 videos have common details on their sides, e.g. a half of the same house can be seen on the North camera at the right side & half of that house is seen on the left side of the East cam, etc.

When I drag'n'drop the 6 videos into Autopano, only one is seen on the pre-render window. If I render the video, save it and upload it onto youtube IT IS a 360 degree video! (Looks cool) But it shows only one side.. as if you are in a cinema and can see only the screen and darkness around.

What am I doing wrong?

I tried one more way, which failed as well.
I used krpanotool to convert 6 sets of images of each virtual cam into one set of images of equirectangular and then made a video out of that set using ffmpeg. The last touch was to apply: "Spatial Media Metadata Injector.exe"...
The videos produces with such a method were just flat on youtube... I mean they were not 360 degree videos, but distorted sequence of equirectangular frames.
I put such a video into Autopano, it did "not wrap it round and ball", it just made another "you are in a cinema video" where the screen shows distorted images.
Any ideas? I hope there is a way out :)

Just a few pictures that I made before making the videos. This is how I see it should work:
