Dubai Marathon 2012

by gddxb » Fri Jan 27, 2012 3:30 pm

This was taken about a minute before the start of the main race, 5 minutes before sunrise. Wasn't the clearest of mornings unfortunately, and very challenging light, but - all things considered - I'm fairly pleased with the way it turned out.

It's one of 5 that I took this morning. Also captured the start of the 10k and 3k races, plus the moment the winner of the main race crossed the finish line, and the moment that a good friend of mine finished the race a couple of hours after that.

The 10k race started just 15 minutes after the main race, so it was all a bit of a rush!

This is the best view of Dubai I have ever seen. Great quality and colours, perfect point of view. Outstanding!

That's very kind of you to say so Marcin.

Look. There's a rhythmic ceremonial ritual coming up !

gddxb the view is fantastic, but I wouldn't call this photo finished. May I suggest you try:
- to remove the horrible cutting artifacts in the sky, either by tweaking AP settings (in older versions there was a smartblend pyramid slider, not sure how to go about this in the latest 2.6) or as a last resort by resynthesizing/healing/whatever them out in gimp/photoshop, and
- to fix the obvious tonemapping especially round the sun either by going easier on the source photos, or by rendering your pano as EXR and then tonemapping the whole thing. Try Picturenaut, works wonders.
