straitening ricoh theta does not work - makes it even worse

Hi Kolot team,
trying to straighten ricoh theta files does not work. And panotour pro 2.5.10 makes it even worse. See enclosed files.

ptp 2.5.10, osx 10.13.4, mac pro 2010 / 5.1

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

I'm sorry but Panotour cannot straighten the horizon, such feature simply does not exist in Panotour or any other software in the Kolor suite.

You will need to use another software before importing your photo in Panotour.

But panotour has had this feature in the past. Why has it been removed? Why does make panotour in its current version it worse?

When i open panotour, i have the option to make a project with ricoh theta settings. And then when opening ricoh theta pictures, ptp ask me to straighten the horizon (in its current version).

So why do you say "does not exist"?

Sorry I was not clear enough, I meant that you cannot correct the horizon manually with Panotour.

With Theta pictures, Panotour will automatically straighten the horizon based on the EXIF data (metadata generated by the camera), but if those data are not accurate then the results will not be perfect and cannot be edited.

Yes i know this. When i move the pictures (i have included original and "straightened" in my first post) to the ricoh theta app on my macintosh, the picture and horizon will be perfectly straightened. But panotour makes it worse.

So the erroneous part is panotour.

Simply download the picture (the one without _str in filename) and move it to the ricoh theta app AND to panotour and see what happens...

So please, which is the last version of panotour that does the straightening of theta pictures correctly, so that i can download and install this old version?

Hello Christian,

I checked your picture with different versions of Panotour.
They all behave the same way.

Are all your pictures "fixed" the same erroneous way ?

I'll check the exif settings of your picture to see if the picth and roll datas are correctly retrieved by PTP, or if Ricoh changed the way they described the gyroscope data of the images.

Did you upgrade the firmware of your camera recently ?

The last time i used panotour to straighten (oops, how is it written correctly?) the pics has been the m15 model, panotour pro version unknown, now the erroneous pics are from the s model, panotour pro 2.5.10 and 2.5.11.

Ahem, one last thing. The pics from the m15 i imported directly on windows, the s pictures i imported with os/x foto application, and exported them as "unchanged original". On osx 10.13.5 the theta doesnt appear as external drive, i only can import via foto app.

And yes, ALL pictures i tried get worse. I have some examples where people are standing upside down in the "straightened" pictures.

Meanwhile i have a workaround to straighten the pictures ... ptgui does the job. But the workflow is painfull slow, for one picture at a time. If you have many pictures to correct, uh-oh, yes it works, better aligned horizon than with panotour, but the workflow is a pain in the ***.

OK, we found the issue.

The algorithm used by Panotour to straighten the horizon was based on the data provided by Theta M15 firmware.
For Theta V, and Theta S, Ricoh gives more data. And more correct data, about the roll of the camera .

This issue will be fixed in next Panotour release.
