News on the new KEN project?

by Mark Edwards » Wed Jan 25, 2017 11:55 pm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any additional information regarding the new KEN project that was discussed at IVRPA 2016 by Alexandre and Raphael back in May?

You can view the IVRPA presentation here: https://youtu.be/7nj0QtMkBiA

If anyone could provide or point me to some more information I would be grateful.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Alexandre,
Thank you for your response. Is there currently an estimated time frame for more details or public beta access?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

It looks like the KEN project has been released under the name FORGE.js

All the details, samples and API can be found here: http://forgejs.org/

Alexandre made reference at the IVRPA to Panotour 3 being a GUI design interface for developing projects using this new framework, is this still the plan?

If this is what you are planning to do, will this functionality be in addition to the current features i.e. krpano based inc livepano or will this new framework be a complete replacement and krpano will no longer be supported by Panotour 3?

It would be great if you could provide some kind of approximate timeline for when you hope this would be released. I appreciate you can't give a date but a quarter and year would still be helpful for planning which frameworks to consider for upcoming projects.

Thank you.

Emmm... Seems to be a lot like what a friend of mine was working on a few years ago using Three.JS.... I still have his demo somewhere.. Not many of the samples actually work my end on my iMac.. Perhaps not supported.. Seems to be far too basic to be of any value anyway.... Its like stepping back in time... BUT... The suggestions seems that its very much more than that.. The introductions seems to be very exciting..

Even so,... what is all this.... who is behind all this..

Hi Destiny,

Kolor are behind this. You can watch the presentation Kolor gave at IVRPA 2016 (https://youtu.be/7nj0QtMkBiA) which explains what it does and why they made it.

Three.js is listed in the dependencies.

I hope that helps.

Thanks

emm.. The logo is very GoPro'ey looking.

PTP-? without krpano... and the restrictions in poses for PTP.. I tested some VRs made by a friend from github using Three.js a few years ago.. It had many restrictions but he added hotspots and was working on other features.. I will have to contact him to find out what he knows about it.. The introduction media graphics suggest there is more to it than I can see.. Much of the features are not working too well.... But I like the theme behind them.. Perhaps this is the new direction Kolor has taken. We have not seen anything much come from PTP in such a long time, its worrying.. PTP without a doubt is the best virtual tour software available.. It still has many failings but its still the best options..

Destiny..
