Exporting the x/y positions of the images in the panorama

by DarylWM » Tue Sep 15, 2015 7:39 am

Hello all.

I would like to export or retrieve the x,y pixel coordinates of each image comprising the panorama, but I haven't yet found a way to do it.

For example, here's a panorama comprising 148 images.
stitching.png

I would like to export a file containing the x,y locations of each image in the mosaic. I've tried looking in the .pano file and some of the other formats APG can export, but this information doesn't seem to be in there, as far as I can tell. Is there a way of getting the information I'm after?

Thanks,
Daryl.

You could try Export to Papywizard.

This creates a file in XML format that records co-ordinates.

Not sure it will give you what you want in this case though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked at all the formats APG 4.2 can export (.pano, .ptp, .pts, .pto, and papywizard XML) and they all specify the image positions in terms of roll/pitch/yaw and a focal length. It seems I would need to re-project onto a plane to get x,y coordinates.

Looking at your screenshot I don't begin to understand what the purpose of stitching your images is, and how you would use the x-y co-ordinates. nor how they were shot.

APP/APG 'expects' images to be shot from a single position, hence Y/P/R defines their relative positions.

It's a stitch of aerial shots taken from a UAV 30 meters above ground. When I set Viewpoint optimisation on for the group, APG doesn't assume the shots were taken from the same point. It does a fine job. Now ideally I'd like to georeference the mosaic, given that I know the lat/long for each image. That's why I'm wondering whether it's possible to work out where in the mosaic APG placed each image.

So is there a way to retrieve the x,y positions, or is it not possible?

I dont see any, you've tried all thé expportd possible.

Even if you optimise the viewpoint, APG still works in roll/pitch/yaw and doesn't "switch" to a different type of image placement (x,y).

Hi,

There is a way to do that. It's not the best way, but it could do the job.

If you render individual pictures (check the box in render settings), each image will contains EXIF data (X Position & Y Position). It is the coordinates of the picture in the panorama space.

Any EXIF analysis tool will be able to retrieve this data.
Hope it helps.

Regards,
Thomas

Thanks Thomas. I'll give that a try.
