A trick AlexJ taught me was to flick between the control points to see if there were any movement between slices which is a clear sign that the NPP is out.. But to be honest, I see so little moment which suggest the NPP is correct.. I am wondering if my issue is the overlap of the top row with the bottom row.. Perhaps I need more.. Perhaps if I changed the bottom to 40 or 35 degrees to get more overlap..
Here is a movie of my control movements between slices..

The front lens element might be bulbous, but Nikon's 14-24mm f/2.8 is one of the most rectilinear wide angle lenses there is. As is Canon's new 11-24mm f/4. Both have very little distortion. ;-)

For either program, you have to make sure it doesn't tag it as a fisheye, because it often will assume that for focal lengths wider than 15 or 16mm on a full frame sensor. You can change that in the preferences for PTGui.
