Linux library issue when Intel Compiler is installed

by ylai » Fri May 23, 2014 3:02 pm

Between version 3.0.8 and 3.5.0 there appears to be a regression with plugins and linking, because with 3.5.0, the symbol tables contain reference to libimf, libsvml, libimf, and libintlc. If the Intel Compiler is actually installed, this will cause the linker to find the library, and failing with Intel IPP's ippInit() not being found.

./AutopanoGiga: symbol lookup error: <path>/Plugins/libKExternal_linux64.so: undefined symbol: ippInit

If for version 3.5.1 (or 3.5.0), ldd Plugins/libKExternal_linux64.so gives a list that contains

---snip---
libiomp5.so => /opt/intel/composer_xe_2013.3.163/compiler/lib/intel64/libiomp5.so (0x00007fec86a8c000)
libtbb.so.2 => not found
libKGFL_linux64.so => not found
libQtXml.so.4 => /usr/lib64/libQtXml.so.4 (0x00007fec86849000)
libQtGui.so.4 => /usr/lib64/libQtGui.so.4 (0x00007fec85c20000)
libQtCore.so.4 => /usr/lib64/libQtCore.so.4 (0x00007fec857bc000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007fec8559f000)
libimf.so => /opt/intel/composer_xe_2013.3.163/compiler/lib/intel64/libimf.so (0x00007fec850e2000)
libsvml.so => /opt/intel/composer_xe_2013.3.163/compiler/lib/intel64/libsvml.so (0x00007fec84718000)
libirng.so => /opt/intel/composer_xe_2013.3.163/compiler/lib/intel64/libirng.so (0x00007fec84511000)
libm.so.6 => /lib64/libm.so.6 (0x00007fec8428c000)
---snip---

(with libimf, libsvml and libirng getting resolved to the actual Intel Compiler libraries, if installed; the libintlc appears a bit later), while 3.0.8, it is just the iomp5 (which does not cause problems):

---snip---
libiomp5.so => /opt/intel/composer_xe_2013.3.163/compiler/lib/intel64/libiomp5.so (0x00007f806cd78000)
libtbb.so.2 => not found
libQtXml.so.4 => /usr/lib64/libQtXml.so.4 (0x00007f806cb36000)
libQtGui.so.4 => /usr/lib64/libQtGui.so.4 (0x00007f806bf0d000)
libQtCore.so.4 => /usr/lib64/libQtCore.so.4 (0x00007f806baa9000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007f806b88c000)
libm.so.6 => /lib64/libm.so.6 (0x00007f806b607000)
---snip---

The two systems I tried are Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 6.5 and Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS (where from the library versions, the build was apparently done).
