I am considering buying the Panogear
Welcome to the forum...
OK - but I cannot currently recommend the Panoshoot controller.
Robotic heads become most advantageous when you are shooting panoramas comprising many images, many tens or hundreds.
Or in situations where you cannot operate a manual pano head - when shooting from a pole for example.
and wondered if it could also be used as a pan / tilt head for still shots? i.e. use it to position the camera to the desired angle and then take a still image?
You could...but it would be an expensive and rather cumbersome pan/tilt head.
The Panogear is basically a simple astro telescope mount that's been found another use for automated pano photography.
When shooting panos it's conventional to mount the camera in portrait orientation, but I expect your still shots would be using the camera in landscape orientation?
could I control the exposure and camera settings remotely too?
Thanks in advance.
Only if you had the camera tethered via USB to a computer of some sort.
What camera(s) do you have?
