Help me start

In the panorama field, hardware is also part of the success. You can discuss here about it: camera, computer, pano head, anything

Help me start

by ahmad.afef » Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:06 pm

Hello every one,

I'm thinking about starting a new business in virtual tours and I'm not sure I have much than $2850 for everything.

What I have:

Sony VAIO T 15.5:
Core i5 3337u
4GB Ram

What I want to get:

1- Canon EOS 700D (760.00 USD => local seller)
2- NN3 MKII Starter Package (F3500) (260.00 USD)
3- Tripod from here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/200982573105) (45.00 USD)
4- Sigma 10mm f2.8 EX DC (760.00 USD => local seller)
5- Autopano Giga 3.0 (189.35 EUR)
6- Panotour Pro 2.0 (379.65 EUR)

Total is: ~2582.00 USD

Are the hardware (Camera, Lens, Tripod, and Tripod head) OK and good to go?
Is the lens compatible with the Camera?
Will the Camera and Lens work with the tripod head?
Will the tripod head work with the tripod?

I know the software is good and tested them with +100 image 20MP and had no trouble at all.

Thank you for reading and really hope to help me out :D

Yes, the lens is compatible with the camera.

I think you need a better tripod.

I'm surprised you managed to handle '+100 image 20MP and had no trouble at all' on a laptop with just 4GB RAM.

A 64-bit OS and more RAM would be desirable.

Thanks a lot for the reply "mediavets"

Indeed i'll be upgrading to 8GB of RAM and the OS is Windows 8.1 64Bit
working with 4GB is ok but it's very slow and will have to use all RAM and a lot of hard drive cash.

About the tripod, can you suggest a good one under $200 and compatible with NN3 MKII?

Thank you :)

The other downsides of laptops vs. desktops for use with Autopano Giga is relatively slow and low capacity hard drives and relatively weak graphics performance.

This one is popular with pano shooters:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/ctg/Manfrotto-055 ... -/99712555

If you afford it get the leveling centre column accessory for it.

Pre-used gear might also be an option..

Indeed tripod suggestion of mediavets is a good one.

When computer is not fast enough, let me know, I have a 16 GB i7 920 machine which can be accessed by RDP and dropbox.

Thanks a lot "mediavets" for the great advice :D

since ebay.uk don't ship to my country, i'll get the tripod from here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/151163766991)
and since i have no idea what "leveling centre column accessory" is, would you please take a look to see if it's included with it?

Thank you "Destiny" for the advice. considering shipping cost plus the cheapest tripod listed there, the price is very close to the new (Manfrotto 055XPROB) suggested by "mediavets".

So i'll stick with the new one :D

This is it:

And this explains the advantages of having one:

You've been a great help "mediavets". I cant really thank you enough :)
The leveling thing is more expensive than the tripod itself, so i'll leave it for future expansion if I got lucky and everything worked the way I want.

Again , thank you for the great help :D

Yes, it's not cheap. But makes shooting setup easier and quicker.

It's not essential to have the rig completely level anyway when shooting 360x180 panos as it's quite easy to level the pano in the APP/APG Panorama Editor.

I have some experience with APG and I may say I can survive without the leveling. When the time comes I'll get better hardware :D

Thank you for the great help man :D

We all wish for that. Key is to let dropbox run for a while when uploading and go do something else meanwhile. There will never be enough speed for the impatient ;-)

Just try to level with tripod legs, it is harder but do-able

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you said, would you please explain it to me.
I know the nadir is the ground pic and I can make by make some -5 degrees with the tripod head or take an image manually and APG will do the rest.

Is there anything else to know?

Thank you =D

Look at the nodal ninja nadir adapter. Should fit on your NN3 and allow making nadir images straight downward
