fatal crash erasing project data ??????????

by f-visuals » Sat Oct 26, 2013 12:12 pm

Using the beta version on windows 7 32bits, I encountered few times a problem that to my point of view is just unacceptable for a software like this. I don't know how "technically' something like this is possible but :
I'm working on a project (containing 10 pano + 20 pictures), the soft just crash for an unexpected reason and well, during this critical error, it is just ERASING completely and simply the project.
I mean, the soft crash, and after that when I try to re-open, I have a blank window (as the saved project, which is normally around 640kb become a 0kb file)... the crash seems to erase everything :/
I let you imagine that if you're not backing up the project often (very often) you just end up to re-do everything. MY GOSH...
It happened to me at least between more than 10 times on a professionnal project I'm working on...
Pissed off...

So I don't know if I'm an isolated case but damn ****, I get very tired of this

All the best

When does the crash occur ?
Was it while "saving" the project ?

The saving process is the only time we "write" into the *.kpt file . So this file cannot or at least should not be emptied elsewhere.
I do not find your crash reports on our server. Did you upload them with the crash window that appears after the crash ?

This report, with a detailed information about what you did just before the crash, helps us a lot to fix crash issues.
Please, fill also the email field, of the crash reporter window. It does not help us to solve the crash, but it helps us to find the report associated to your post on the forum.

I had exactly the same problem a week ago, I did have all the mergers, Geolocation, inscriptions, names, and so when he showed an error and an empty file of the project. My project is a 316 panorama including 3 GigaPans, and I noticed that while the program begins more and more to slow down, and suddenly shows an error, but so far the firing of the project was to be recovered or saved to a file. Every time I send a crash report to you, that appears on the error. I have a Windows 7 HP 64bit, 16GBram. I survived the collapse, but now I take up again to work.

Is it the same problem as the one described above? Is your project file "really" empty.
If you open it with a text editor, what does it contains ?

OK. So your case is quite different from the one described by f-visuals .
Can you attach your project file, the kpt file, to your next answer ?
Knowning what does your project file exactly contain will help us to solve your crash case.

Hey guys,
I've been away a while but to answer the very first question, the project is a beta1 so maybe that's why there's some troubles. It keeps happening me a lot and it's strange because I usually send the report.

But keep up the good work :)

Updated my tour that was originally built with Panotour Pro 2.0 beta 2 and I'm now experiencing the same issue.

Opened the file to arrange panos, correct some hotspots pointing to wrong panos and add thumbnail stack. I needed to remove a pano, selected it and hit the delete key is when I had my first crash. Sent report. I then continued to select the pano and remove, again crash. Finally successful on removing it by ungrouping, selecting specific pano, right click delete.

From there I built the tour only to notice I lost my floorplans, social icons and hotspots had lost their properties on where to start.

This evening I've sent 3 crash reports and it's the only thing I can think of that is overwriting my files?

Went as far as deleting all the files and rebuilding with no luck.

Read through the Floorplan Not Showing thread and found part of the problem.

By selecting the green play last tour button resolves the floorplan and social icons not showing.
Hotspots on floor plan are all jacked up and every time something is deleted Panotour crashes.

Crazy suggestion but has anyone had Photoshop open at the same time as PTP 2.0 ?
I just closed Photoshop and PTP 2.0, opened PTP 2.0 and deleted a floor plan no problem with no crash.
