Photography & video, D800 vs 5D Mark iii. Hear & read a lot about the two bodies and how they fullfil a niche but not best for both. D800 is great for photography but best for video.

What are your thoughts and recommendation on the ideal camera body?

There is no "ideal camerabody". Sorry.

I definitely prefer a D800 over a 5D3 - also for video. But in a way it´s a matter of taste.

Klaus

PS: in terms of video - the D800 provides recordable, uncompressed HDMI-output. That´s a killer-feature. I don´t know whether the 5D3 provides that also - 5D2 didn´t.

As is life... sigh. Love the tech, but want the dream. D800 would be my choice, but the media scene around turns up opportunities that seem to perfer the Mark iii for straight video... Tough choice, wish I can just simply have both.

Thank you Klaus!

Been on video production all last week, after talking with all the film industry camera operators, I've decided that the 5Diii is best option. Great video, still really awesome photography... I can get more jobs just doing video. Which will afford me a D800, or the motor pano-head w/ 200+mm lens, and/or 360 video...

Final kicker in my decision was reading Ken Rockwell's review: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/comparisons/d800-vs-5d-mark-iii.htm

Thank you all for exploring the consideration with me. Happy shooting!
