Check *after* detection and optimisation, in the main window. Here, it reads EXIF.

"Main" window? You mean the editor-window?

No, in the layer view; scroll it to the right, you'll see the real focal.

It´s the same as before:

Can´t help it - it doesn´t get better. I have a feeling the overlap might be too low . .
This was detection "high" - the others were "low" and "mid". "Lens correction" was on and off - made no difference.

Comparing the locations of the images in the Panorama Editor display screenshot with the details of the presets, it looks to me as if perhaps you did not set the Home/Centre position correctly to 0 pitch before shooting.
Remind me again.
Which of these two presets are you using?:
1. 3 + 6 + 12 + 6 + 3 (28mm)
17 mm on APS-C (x1.6)
3 picts @ +70°
6 picts @ +40°
12 picts @ -10°/+10°
6 picts @ -40°
3 picts @ -70°
2. 3 + 6 + 12 + 6 + 3 (30mm)
20 mm on APS-C (x1.5)
3 picts @ +75°
6 picts @ +39°
12 picts @ -16°/+16°
6 picts @ -39°
3 picts @ -75°

Hi Andrew!
I used the first one - with a 17-85mm Canon lens @17mm on a 20D (1,6crop)
The second one i tried using a 20mm Nikon on a 20D - it failed completely.
The 20mm is a 32mm and not a 30mm on my 1,6crop 20D - it wouldn´t even fit with a 1,5crop Nikon.
Additionally i guess there´s too small overlap. I found 25-30% gives better reserves - don´t know what´s in the presets.
best, Klaus

Presets don't specify overlaps merely shooting positions.

Klaus, I suggest you ask GURL to send you his app project allowing you to simulate a pano using only 1 image:

I added a link to the file; right-click on it to save it on your file system.
This is a quick and dirty link; it may clash if 2 users want to use it at the same time. If it happens, just retry to upload the output file, or hit the 'refresh' button of your browser.

Thanks - worked OK for me.
I doubt there will be many 'clashes'.

Hi Frédéric!
Georges kindly already sent me two files - which i don´t know to deal with really . . ![]()
I´ll try them tonight - it´s gonna be a long night anyway because of watching the US elections. We all

I moved the preset converter on the trac site:

It works, but the way you had it before with a regular link offered the opportunity to do a 'Save as...' and rename the file - which I can't now, using FireFox anyway. I like to be able to provide a name myself so that I do not inadvertently overwrite my existing files. Plus it allow me to provide a filename that identifies what the preset file is for.

Strange... Firefox under linux allows me to rename the file while saving (see screenshots).
It also works with konqueror and the Nokia's navigator...

FF3.x on WinXP SP3 doesn't seem to behave like that.
I get what's shown on screenshot below.
If I select 'Save File' then it just saves the file to the Desktop - I don't get any option to rename or to choose another location to which to save the file.
Maybe I can change some FF setting - but I have never changed FF settings from default install so perhaps others would see what I am seeing using FF on Win XP SP?

Thanks.
With FF on WinXP SP3 it is Tools>Options>Main tab>Downloads and check 'Always ask me where to save files'

This Panoramic photography lens database could be a help for people wanting to create custom presets for shooting sphericals:

Ok, let's start a new thread to speak about useful presets I can add as default:
I already have these:
4@0 + Z + N
This preset is I presume intended to be used with the Sigma 8mm f3.5 FE on a cropped sensor DSLR.
Using the Sigma 8mm f3.5 FE with a Nikon D40 on my NN5 head I would normally shoot 4-around at +5 degress and 1-up at about +60-65 degrees.
I might not use the 'zenith' shot in the stitch because in many instances the main row at +5 dgrees usually provide adequate zenith coverage with this camera/lens combo.
I've just tried the 4@o + Z +N preset which shoots the Z and N at +/- 90.
The focus ring of the Sigma 8mm f3.5 FE lens mounted on my D40 just barely clears the dovetail rail. The crown intrudes into the shot quite a lot - see third image below - but APP/Smartblend copes with that OK.
The quick-n-dirty panos below show why it is not useful to have the N shot in this preset (yes, I know the camera was tilted on the mount rail, it twists with the weight of the lens).
In the first case I included the N shot, in the second case I didn't.

Klaus
I have made you a custom spherical preset file for your 20mm lens on 1.6x crop sensor.
DO NOT attempt to use it if you cannot get a full down rotation of your camera (with this lens attached) on the Merlin for a +90 degrees zenith shot because this preset will shoot this sort of zenith shot.
IF you can get a full downwards rotation with your camera and your 20mm lens on the Merlin - ie. a position for +90 degrees zenith shot - then go to this page:
http://www.three60views.org.uk/
You will find a link to the file "presets-20x16crop.xml" near the bottom of the page.
Download that XML file.
Make copy of it and name it presets.xml.
Copy the file presets.xml to the removable storage card of your Nokia Tablet.
Run Papywizard and select File/Import preset file... and import the presets.xml file from the removable storage card.
You will now find a new preset listed in the dropdown list of presets it will be named "20mm on 1.6x crop".
Select it and after positioning your camera at your desired 0/0 point, and clicking on the Home/Centre button, proceed to do a shoot.
It will shoot 32 shots (that's without bracketing).
A zenith shot at +90.
Then three rows of 10 shots per row spaced at 36 degrees of yaw.
First row pitched at +45.
Second row pitched at 0.
Third row pitched at -45.
Then it will shoot a nadir at -90 degrees.
Try a stitch and see if this preset produces a set of images you are happy with.
If it does then copy the presets.xml file from the removable storage card to the folder/directory named /home/user/.config/papywizard/ on the Nokia and it will make that preset permanently available. Until it is copied there it will disappear (from the selection of presets) whenever Papywizard is closed, but of course you could import it again using File/Import preset file...

Andrew - what can i say! Thank you very much! HOW did you do that - i didn´t understand the procedere to get the numbers right. I tried to make a mosaic-preset for 360x180deg - but that produces far too much pictures.
I have no problem to swing the camera 90deg, up or down.
Again: thanks a lot and good nite, Klaus ![]()

I looked up on this lens database to see how many rows and columns were required to cover 360x180 with your lens:
http://uploadme.evonet.ro/panoramic/pho … abase.html
I don't know if this is correct or matches the number of rows and shots you would use if shooting with a manual pano head but it's all I had to guide me. If you own the lens for which you are creating a preset then you would just use the number of rows, and Yaw and Pitch values, you would use when shooting a spherical with a manual pano head.
Then I sketched it out on a piece of paper, one line for each row labeled with the Pitch for each row, and added the Yaw values for each shooting position on each line (row) starting at zero on the left side of each row/line). Then I added the Zenith and Nadir shot positions on my sketch and figured out the shooting sequence which would require fewest moves of the Merlin head, starting with the Zenith and moving down to the first position of the first row, then clockwise across the first row, counter-clockwise back across the second row and so on, ending with the nadir shot. The Zenith is shown on the sketch at the right end of the line, above the last shooting position in the first row; but the Zenith should have been drawn above the first shooting position of the fist row, which is how it is defined in the preset (ie. Yaw=0, Pitch=+90).
Then shot a pano in simulation mode using one of the existing spherical presets, recording a data file; then converted that data file to a preset file using Frederic's convertor:
http://trac.gbiloba.org/papywizard/wiki/PresetConverter
This gave me a 'shell' preset file to modify - because I was too lazy to write the preset file from scratch. Then edited this file - you can use any text editor, I used Wordpad with Windows - I just added lines for additional shooting positions and modified the Yaw and Pitch values to match my sketch.
I think that if you inspect the preset file I made using a text editor all will become clear - and you can modify it easily as you wish - for example, perhaps it would be better if the Yaw value of each shooting position in the zero pitch row was increased by 18 degrees?:
