3.0.2 not considering metadata or playlist settings

by XanderLo » Sat Mar 03, 2018 3:58 pm

Hello,

First of all, thank you for the free software. It's been working great with my 360 videos but recently, I encountered an issue that I can't get around yet.

Using GoPro VR 3.0.2 on Windows 10 x64 and an equirectangular/top-bottom stereoscopic video, I can't get GoPro VR to automatically set itself in the proper modes for proper viewing.

I tried Google's Spatial Metadata Tool to inject top-bottom stereoscopy and somehow, GoPro VR Player does not consider it. I always have to force equirectangular proj. + top-bottom stereoscopy in the Preferences.

Next, I created a .kepl file including "stereo": "OverUnder" and "projectionSource": "Equirectangular". Same issue, I need to force Equirectangular and top-bottom stereo in GoPro VR Preferences for it to work. I need to find a way to have GoPro VR Player load the content in AUTO mode.

Lastly, I got a 6K version of that video which GoPro VR Player 3.0.2 cannot load (unsupported codec, but it's been encoded the same as its 4K counterpart). Could 2.3.1 help me out here? If so, where can I download it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

** UPDATE **
I could find version 2.3.1. The 6K version does load there (why not 3.0.2?) but neither playlist settings nor metadata is taken into consideration. :(

The .kepl file is the right way to do what you want, I think the only thing you're missing is to set Input type & Input stereoscopy to "Auto" value (Settings > General settings), this will allow to use the values from .kepl file.

Since version 3.0, VLC backend does not support anymore software decoding. To do make it simple, if your graphic card cannot decode the video, GoPro VR Player with VLC backend will not.
You can also try the other backend in GoPro VR Player (Settings > Video decoding).

Thank you for the reply.
I can assure both settings « Projection » and « Stereoscopy » are set to AUTO. The settings in the kepl have no effect.

Anything I can do for troubleshooting?

I sent the PM. Can you confirm you received it? It's stuck in "Outbox" and I'm wondering whether this is normal.
Thanks!

Yes I got it, thanks.

Indeed there is an issue, that occurs only if there is only one media in the playlist.
So you can fix that now just by duplicating your media description in the .kepl file, like this :
Code: Select all
[
    {
        "media": "invasion.mp4",
        "stereo": "OverUnder",
        "projectionSource": "Equirectangular"
    },
    {
        "media": "invasion.mp4",
        "stereo": "OverUnder",
        "projectionSource": "Equirectangular"
    }
]

Hi,

Thank you for the reply!
The issue here is that I want the player to only play 1 clip and stop after. Any workarounds for that?

Best regards

*EDIT*

By adding a dummy second entry, it does the trick. Is this a quick fix you can introduce in the next patch release? :)
Thanks again.
