Black Preview in Scene Properties Issue

by Annis » Fri Jan 20, 2017 2:18 pm

Hello all,

I'm creating this sticky to centralise information about the black preview bug, to hopefully find the cause, a possible workaround or at least a fix for the next version.

Instead of creating a separate topic, please post here with the following information:

Full computer configuration (OS + version, System, Video Card, etc...):
Current Graphic driver version and release date:
Have you tried previous driver versions (if yes, which):

If you resize the preview window by dragging the bottom left corner, does it show :

Software version(s) the issue is present in:
Have you tried previous versions (2.5.4 or 2.5.3):

What file format(s) are your affected scenes:
Are both image and video scenes affected:

Any additional feedback or comments you could provide would be very useful.

Thanks for reading!

Annis

_____________________________________________

Current possible workarounds you can try:
- Resize the preview window by dragging the bottom left corner
- Using previous version 2.5.4 (if it works please specify which version works for you)
- Reverting to previous graphics driver version (if it works please specify which version works for you, what your driver is and what the release date for that driver is)

Hello,
I reported this problem in September last year, I downloaded for evaluation the latest release of PanoTour Pro 2.5.5. and recently 2.5.6 but I can't upgrade from my old ver. 1.8.0. because I noticed a problem, there is NO PANORAMA PREVIEW (!!!). It is widely reported by other users at the forum and you haven't done anything about it yet ? this is a serious issue since I'm unable to adjust the start point of panorama. The preview window shows tools but the background is black - no panorama preview ?!
Please provide support for the problem. I expect a prompt fixing of this problem. Why ver. 2.5.4 works OK with panorama preview at my computer and the latest versions not ? You have well working engine of ver. 2.5.4 so why you don't use this one and just fix other bug you removed in following versions ?
Regards
Anna

I'm sorry you seem to have misunderstood the point of this sticky topic.
It is intended to collect a maximum amount of information about this bug precisely because we can not reproduce it or find it's cause. It does not in any way minimise the fact that this is an issue for many users. But without finding the cause, there can't be any fix.

Nevertheless, thank you for for the information on your computer, though you did not specify what your graphics card was and the driver version?

The driver version you mention dates back to 2015. That is way too old to use the latest version of PTP, which requires the capabilities of current graphics cards and drivers.

In your case unless you can find or use a much more recent driver, your only solution would be to go back to the last version that worked for you.

There isn't much difference between 2.5.4 (which you said worked) and 2.5.7, mostly bug fixes and optimisation.

If you can't update your driver (did you check Intels website though?), then download the software from this page: http://www.kolor.com/download-previous-versions/

To all who have this blac preview issue,

Can you check the following with last version of Panotour/Panotour Pro ?

1/ Open Panotour
2/ Add a scene
3/ Select it
4/ In the property tab, in the Preview area, try to drag to bottom right anchor that allows to resize the preview.

Is the preview still black after the resize ?

No, hence why this sticky is still here.

Have you tried the other questions on this topic?
Is your graphics driver up to date? What is the card and version/release date of the driver?
Did you try resizing the preview? viewtopic.php?f=92&t=34721#p196004

Black Previw issue only on this PC when viewing this tour

http://www.vr-360grad.solutions/test/

This tour works fine on many other PCs or Mobile devices

PC
Windows 7 - 64bit
Graphicscard: Inter(R) GMA 4500

the PC is old but other Autopano Tour examples work normal.

Er, this topic is about the preview window in the software, not previewing in the browser.
Are you saying that tour and only that one has the black preview issue? Or that you can't view it in a browser? If it's the 2nd case, please post a topic.

Hi Annis
Sry! Yes it was the second case.
We solved the problem.

Our Tour was a giant with about 4-5GB we reduced the images from arround 40MB to ~7MB and also the video.
After this we achieved to get a tour of about ~200MB
Then we were able to view the tour on this device, slow very slow but it worked!

We also used the possibilitie to make the video compatible by using --> Alternative Versions

Windows 10 64bit
Intel i7
16 GB Ram
DirectX 12
Latest Intel graphic diver installed
PanoTour Pro 2.5.8 (tried 2.5.5 as well)

Please advise on this bug - I have a lot of work I cannot complete due to this nasty bug.

2.5.4 is the version that was reported to not have the issue by some. Did you try that version?
Did you try the other questions asked in this thread? viewtopic.php?f=92&t=34721&p=200650#p196004

I'll give 2.5.4 a try. It is troubling when a software company views the solution to a bug is to use back-dated version.
Are the Kolor engineers actively working on an actual fix for this?
Yes, I tried everything else suggested in this thread.

Using 2.5.4 is not a solution, it's a workaround.

We have not managed to reproduce the issue or even find the cause of the issue, so until then, we can not provide a fix.

Thanks for the "workaround". Glad to be able to get back to working effectively. I hope your team can replicate the issue (bug) soon so those of us with the issue are not stuck in back-date version usage forever.

Hi Elena, Hi placemobile,

Is it an Intel GPU card ?
I yes, what is the model (for instance Intel HD Graphics 3000) and the drivers version ?
This is visible into the Device Manager for Windows OS.

Thanks.
