How are your HDs configured?

by jimbee » Fri Mar 10, 2017 7:00 pm

Am I correct in assuming that when working on a PC with multiple HDs that there's an advantage to how the drives are utilized when working on Giga & Tour projects? I'm attempting to streamline the workflow given there can be so many different processes involved.

Giga: Project file(s), Source images, Exports from LR after some adjustments, Rendered projects.

Then Tour: Projects, Tour output, Cube Faces output etc. etc.

For example, rendering to HD other than where the source images are stored should improve performance, yes?

Technically, if your source files, temp folder for PTP and build folder were all on different HDs then there could be an incredibly slight perfomance improvement, but so slight it would probably not be perceptible by human standards, so not really worth the effort or money.

That's interesting. I'm so used to configuring multiple HDs with programs such as Premiere Pro that I guess I just assumed that would be a good way to go. Our main PC has 4 internal HDs and a variety of external drives so being able to dedicate just one will make life simpler.

Thanks for the input Annis!
