how the import video menu gets a 360 video inside a tour?

by 42VR » Mon Mar 28, 2016 10:30 pm

hi.
i have a couple of 360 videos in equiractangular format...compatible with Youtube after injecting with metadata.
i imported them into Panotour Pro 2.5.
this is the same format to upload to Kolor Eyes...without the metadata injection, which i guess 'they' do for you.
the imported .mp4 360 video is NOT injected, and is in H.264 format.

the videos import with a preview image, and all looks ok.
after exporting and rendering the tour, the thumbnails show up in the Panorama Menu.
but when i click on one to play it...it just gives me errors.

i can't find any documentation that explains how to use it, or what to expect or how to make it work properly.
i don't even know if it will play a 360 video unless it is hosted by Kolor Eyes or Youtube or something?
the fact that it will import a 360 video is tantalizing...but not sure what is supposed to happen or how to make it work?

any help would be appreciated...

thx,

randy

What file formats have you provided for the alternate files?

Ideally, you should have:
- Main file : High res .mp4
- High res alternative files: High .ogv, high .webm
- Low res alternative files: low .ogv, low mp4, low .webm.

To ensure a maximum compatibility with the different browsers and devices.

hi, thanks for your reply.
i was waiting for an email notification that i had received a reply, but i guess this forum doesn't do that?

i don't have any 'alternate' resolution files.
will it not work at all if there are no alternates?

i'm viewing in Chrome on desktop.
i tried Safari...but the sample on the documentation page wouldn't work in Safari, but it did in Chrome, so i changed all previewing to Chrome.

oh yeah...i finally DID locate the PTP 2.5 docs, with good info about using video...regular video too...supposedly.
but when i try to import regular mp4 video into a project... i immediately crash...MANY times!
don't crash importing the 360 mp4s, but when i build, and play the tour...it works fine until i try to play a 360 video...and then i get errors along the bottom, like usual when something is not working or done right.

i'm wondering if it is an export issue.
because the final export is only 1.4 GB, but the 2 360 videos are about 5.3 GB each. (30 minutes long).
so if it is trying to export the videos to be part of the upload file, something seems to be missing!

thanks for your help!

Yes it does, but certain domains will block automatic notification e-mails, check your spam folder, and try adding contact[at]kolor.com to your whitelist.

Well, it depends, each browser, OS and device handles video differently so it's best to provide as many alternative files as you can.

Safari for example handles WebGL extremely slowly, so the smaller the video file the faster it'll be. That's why if you provide a low res alternative file, on Safari it's always that low res file that'll be used until it is handled better.

What sample?

Did you send in crash reports?

Can you share an online link of your tour, what are the error messages exactly?

thanks again for your reply.
i'll see what info i can provide.
attached is a screenshot of the errors when i try to play the 360 video.
i don't have a spam folder, yet i never get a notification from this forum in my email.
the 360 video example i'm talking about is at the top of the PTP 2.5 documentation page dealing with adding video.
they've probably got a hard drive of my crash reports...
it would take a long time to upload...the 2 videos are 5GB each alone, not counting the 30+ hirez panos.
hopefully the screenshot will be enough to get an idea what i'm not doing right...

thx,

randy

Are you able to play your videos in VLC Media player? The ones that crash. (The video will be flat, it's just to see if it crashes or not, apparently your crash reports say that the crash occurs with a VLC library).

Does it crash with all the videos, or some (specific, or random?)?
Does the crash occur also with smaller videos?

By documentation with a 360 video sample, did you mean this blog post? http://www.kolor.com/2016/01/14/virtual ... 2-5-final/

hi, thanks AGAIN for your reply!
it's just nice to actually get some help! :D

in PTP...360 videos import fine without crashing.
regular videos crash IMMediately after opening.

both open and play fine in latest VLC.
flat for 360 of course.

i changed the name of my 360 videos to names with no spaces between words.
i'm going to see if importing them that way, and exporting now will make a difference.

i'll update here after i get it all done.
still not getting email notifications of when you reply...

thx,

randy
