uploading tour to google drive?

by 42VR » Wed Jun 25, 2014 8:46 pm

hi, i am starting out…and of course have lots of newbie questions!
i have uploaded my 800Mb Panotour Pro 2.0 tour to both Dropbox and Google Drive, both in the Public folder.
both have the html file and resource folder generated by Panotour Pro.
but when i click on the html link, i either get an option to download in Dropbox, or a page of code from Google Drive.
can anybody help me figure out what needs to be changed to make it so that when i click the link in the Public folder, it will open a URL that will play my pano tour?…so then i can share that URL with friends, and they can just click that URL link and it will open the tour and play it?

do any other free websites offer a more transparent and easy to use experience for uploading and playing panorama tours?

thanks,

randy

What you need is some space on a web server - look for frre or paid web hosting.

You really nede a service that allows FTP uploading.

Then you need to be able to follow these instructions:

hi, thanks for your response.
i've seen those instructions, but they looked a bit too complex for me.
i contacted Kolor, and they told me that if i upload the tour to the Public folder of Google Drive or Dropbox, that when i clicked on the link, it would play.
i tried that, but only get a page of code with Drive, and a blank white window with Dropbox.

here are the links to Dropbox and Drive Public folders, maybe you can see what is wrong?

https://drive.google.com/?authuser=0#fo ... mpPSjU1NEk

https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public

is this sort of thing going to work, or am i going to have to edit html to some extent like the help page link you suggested talked about?

i would just upload it to epsky, where it seems everything works right away, with no html editing…just upload your stuff, and you're good!
but i want the full screen for my tour, not just a small player window like epsky has.
plus epsky is limited to 50Mb upload, and my tour is about 800Mb…so i need an alternative hosting solution.

thanks,

randy

wow, thanks for your quick response!
those 2 links were helpful.
they got me a step closer!
so i created the 'site' folder inside the Public folder as per instructions.
then i moved the .html file and the Tourdata folder into the 'site' folder.
the article is probably a little old…the contextual menu for 'Copy Public Link' is actually 'Share Dropbox Link', which i selected.
i then pasted my clipboard to my URL field, and i got the same thing i got originally…the .html file icon with an option to 'Download'.
the tour did not open or even start…but this IS different than a blank white window… :D

i'd send you a screenshot, but apparently i can't upload pics here…

any ideas what is going on?

thanks,

randy

ps. here is the link to the new Public 'site' folder, followed by the URL for the .html file generated by Panotour Pro 2.1.3

Yes, you can.

If you use Post reply (or if you edit a post of your own or Quote the post of another) you will find the Upload attachment feature beneath the Message composition box.

Here is the link to your tour from Google Drive.

As specified on the Google Drive help page I'd sent you:
Once you've uploaded your tour, set it to Public on the web, then you have to first open the document,
open the file in google drive.png
open the file in google drive.png (9.87 KiB) Viewed 1708 times
and then click on preview
preview once opened.png
preview once opened.png (8.92 KiB) Viewed 1708 times
so that you can access the tour. You can copy the new link from the URL bar.

Why the first preview button doesn't work, I don't know.

I'm seeing error messages that suggest that some of the tour files didn't get uploaded:

Just as a little update, Google Drive is changing to a new layout, but the new layout isn't finished and won't allow you retrieve the hosting link for your tour, well, not easily anyway.

Here are the steps:
- If you switch back to the old Drive (Settings > Leave new Drive), follow the steps here: http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/ ... _your_tour
- If you're sticking to the new one:
  • Copy the folder ID of the folder you've made public from the address bar - should look like 0B5uG-tHXXXXXPejZfakZtNjQ (just an example)
  • Append it to the end of this URL: https://googledrive.com/host/
