How can I limit the manual rotation speed ?

by Bmachine » Sat Feb 08, 2014 8:30 pm

Hello all. I am finally moving on to Panotour. Just bought the base 2.0 version. Very interesting so far. As always, it is a bit tricky to learn v2 while most of the videos are made with v1 but that is part of the job I suppose. I wish that all video were clearly labeling which version they are were using. For example, I spent a lot of time trying to find where the 3d editor was. It's only after piecing things together that I realized the videos were using v1 and the 3d editor doesn't exist as a separate pane in v2.

But on to my question:

One problem I see when I output and view a PT file is that if the viewer moves the mouse a little too far to the right or left, the pano starts rotating very fast. Because of the nature of VR, this can almost give a feeling of vertigo. On the Auto Rotation setting, there is a speed limit (5degrees / sec). But is there a way to limit the speed of the rotation when the user moves the mouse around? I did a search here but all that comes up is the auto rotation speed.

And a second question: When Auto rotation is set to start automatically, it would be nice if that auto rotation could be stopped when the user click on the image. For example, sometimes when I try to click on a hot spot, it doesn't work the first time and I have to try again. But by then, the rotation has started again which makes it difficult. I suppose I could set the auto rotation to start after a longer period (2 or 3 seconds) but it would be nice if is stopped altogether after the user clicks on it.

Thank you!

Bo

I found an answer to my second question, ie how to stop the auto rotation on a hotspot.

There is indeed a setting called "Pause on hover" which works perfect! Awesome.

The autorotation also stops for a while (the wait-time you set) when you click anywhere in the pano.

For mouse speed this can be done only into the XML code not via the Panotour Pro GUI.

Add this code into the XML file and change the mousespeed value to a lower number.

Code: Select all
<control mousetype="moveto"
         touchtype="drag2d"
         zoomtocursor="false"
         zoomoutcursor="true"
         mouseaccelerate="1.0"
         mousespeed="10.0"
         mousefriction="0.8"
         mousefovchange="1.0"
         fovspeed="3.0"
         fovfriction="0.9"
         touchfriction="0.87"
         />

In 1.8 speed and direction can be set in the editor. As well as the wait-time.

Klaus

Also works in 2.0.0:

Yes for the autorotation options, but not for the mouse speed/touch speed rotation.

Thank you very much, Benji. But this is only available in PT Pro? Can it be done by hacking the xml in PT? If so which xml is it. I see 4 of them. And it looks like they are all in binary, not ASCII. Yikes...

XML files are encrypted in PT, you'll need PTP be able to edit the XML files.

Actually I just found a workaround. Sorry if this was obvious to the long time users but it might help someone else just getting into PT.

Change the mouse mode to Drag To instead of the default Move To. Much better!

Hi All,

I am having a similar issue, a client would like to slow down the rotation speed on the pano. I have PTP 2.0, just curious which XML file to edit and if it matters where I place that code, also will the code above still work?

Also, is there a way to slow down the gyroscope rotation, ie have it not be 1:1 with what the user is looking at on mobile?

Sorry for the newb question.
Thanks!

Andy

Andy

Isn't that the whole point of the gyroscope feature?

Yes, I think its a rather dumb request...but thats clients for ya right?
The movement at the 1:1 speed is giving him a vertigo feeling, I told him I could turn it off or he could just not move but thats not really what he wants lol.

Anyways, I am wondering if in the XML these are editable features, if not than thats ok, its not the end of the world.

Thanks
