PTP 2.0 - Hosting with SquareSpace

by FlatBallFlyer » Sat Feb 01, 2014 10:38 pm

I'm new to PTP, and trying to upload my first tour. I host with squarespace, and have managed to upload the html and all the support files (HTML5, not flash) but when I load the page in my browser I get an empty tour? The tour works locally. I suspect it may have to do with URL mappings, but don't understand enough about the generated files to know what to look for or where to look. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Hi..

First check to make sure all your files are upload.. Second, check to see if you have set your permission... Right mouse on the folder where the Tour is hosted..

It appears you are forced to use some template to style your site - that's probably what's causing the problem.

If you can use an iframe:

I'd have to host my content somewhere else to use an iFrame solution, not sure I want to do that.... although I do currently host giga-pan's and embed iFrames elsewhere on the site. I'm trying to get away from "free" hosting of my work and into something that I have a little more visibility into.

Yes, SquareSpace hosting is JSON-Template based. I have validated that my files uploaded properly, and I'm trying to get my head around JSON-T, and I think it's just going to be a matter of translating the .html that was generated by Panotour into a JSON-T template. I'm stumbling forward, but If anyone has experience with converting the .html to JSON-Template that would be great....

Update: I have an area of the site that hosts files that are "assets" (i.e. no template processing) - and the tour.html file, and tourdata folder are there. When the panotour loads it's empty, view source reveals a file faithful to the one generated see here:
http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/EagleStTour.html
and here are a couple of jpg's from the data folder

What should the permissions be? (they appear to be 666 for all files)

That should be it, permissions are set... So its now just a matter of finding a way to host them to be able to view your Tour... As Andrews says, you might have to use one of their templates....

I think I've gotten around the template issue - all the files are uploaded and accessible via the correct relative url. If I go to the page, and copy/save the source it passes diff -w from the original so I'm getting the correct html page. When I use Safari-Develop-ViewCode I can click through all the links to java script files, and I can see the jpg's in their respective folders.... is there some limitation to the trial version? Did maybe I miss some option when rendering the tour (It was rendered as html5 only)?

Thanks!

Why do you say that - the link I offered shows that it is possible to utilise iframes.

Although not THE problem it seems self defeating to use HTML5 only. The HTML5 krpano Viewer does not (yet) support all the functionality supported by the Flash Viewer and many browsers are not yet fully compliant with HTML5.

Yes, I can use an iFrame to put content on a page, but I think the content that the iFrame refers to still needs to be hosted somewhere (i.e. I still need the pano.html and panodata files somewhere functional). If I can get the content to work, I will use iFrames to embed it in a page managed by the SquareSpace templates.

If you believe the tour files and folders are uploaded correctly the you should be able to view the tour by accessing the HTML file created by PTP using your borwser.

But since you have created HTML5 only then if your browser is Flash enabled it won't work without adding commands to force use of HTML5 and even then you may find some features don't work because of limitations of your browser's HTML5 support.

Update: This no longer seems specific to SquareSpace since I have figured out how to upload the files to the proper location. All of the uploaded files are hosting and resolving properly. I have re-built the tour, with both Flash and HTML-5 and re-uploaded the files. The pano still comes up empty. Here is a link to the pano...
http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/EagleStTour.html
When examining the source with Safari Developer views I can successfully open all the .js files.

And here are a few links to images in the data folder.

http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/EagleStTourdata/set2_s1_flat_31/5/3/2_3.jpg

As far as I can see it should be working. I'm also out of ideas....

Further updates, so I was looking into source objects with Safari developer tools, and I found some additional information that may help with diagnostics:

Of all the resources identified in the pano.html file, the pano.xml and pano.swf files do not appear to be loading into the developer tool. Both of these files exist, and are located in the correct panodata directory, and they both can be directly retrieved with the appropriate url. This may be a limitation of Safari tools.

The Javascript debugger shows the following error, 3 times....
[Error] Viewport argument key "target-densitydpi" not recognized and ignored. (EagleStTour.html, line 14)[Error]

That is the result I get, from Safari, Firefox and Chrome on Mac OS-X. It is worth noting that the tour works correctly from the local disc in all three browsers.

You need to check the path of your assets..

http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/EagleStTour.js

Your tour is looking in the wrong place.. "EagleStTourdata/EagleStTour.js

hmmmm, can you clarify a bit more. The only reference I see in EagleStTour.html to EagleStTour.js is
<script type="text/javascript" src="EagleStTourdata/EagleStTour.js"></script>

and the file is in that location, i.e. there is NO file
http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/EagleStTour.js
but there is at
http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/Ea ... eStTour.js

perhaps is should be src="./EagleStTourdata/EagleStTour.js" ?

additional details - this is the directory structure as generated by PTP, all references to resources in EagleStTour.html are in EagleStTourdata/... and I have validated the directory structure is the same at http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/.

This is the correct url of your JS..
http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/Ea ... eStTour.js

Your swf file however is not in the right folder, or you have not uploaded it...

Its is supposed to be here...

Problem is the EagleStTour.xml file (and others xml) which is used to generate datas an load ressources : http://www.ssgpp.com/assets/imersive/EagleStTourdata/EagleStTour.xml

Is it the same online and offline ?

Code: Select all
<CacheableEntity>
<pageCache></pageCache>
<cacheKey>63BKpT6tMqEpBa4oOL30W047Ulg-mike-storey</cacheKey>
<entity>
<entity>/data/objectstore/template/549/52ed4c8fe4b0dbab9a9d9549/1391373468438-WX3YLJSLY4YIF6WKRR5D</entity>
<offset>0</offset>
<length>4995</length>
<absoluteContentLength>4995</absoluteContentLength>
</entity>
<secure>false</secure>
<status>200</status>
</CacheableEntity>

Seems that your XML file has been stored into a Database Object ! Look after : http://answers.squarespace.com/ for post a question.

After quite a bit of work, I've settled on hosting my Pano content with Amazon S3, and my web site and commerce with Square Space. If you are interested in the experience, you can check out these blog posts:
