Are we waiting for krpano 1.17 ?

by leifs » Tue Nov 05, 2013 10:10 pm

I've wondered why PTP 2.0 is only in beta, more than a year after it was announced.
Now I think I understand, we are waiting for krpano 1.17

Now it's become urgent to move out of flash to html5. And ofcourse we want it all from PTP1.8 and more. And you can't move to 2.0 without multiresolution and html5.
Then we have to wait for krpano 1.17 ! Here's why : http://www.krpano.com/html5multires/

I've played with the preview of the 1.17 viewer and it works fine on my Samsung S3 :-)
When this is done the debacle of panotours, iPads, Flash, Apple may be put to rest.

Multires will be added only when not in beta.
2.0 release will be done once all major bugs will be solved.

I suspect not.

Support for HTML5 is (still) inconsistent across platforms and between browsers on the same platform.

And as yet, as I understand it, not all features offered by the krpano panorama viewers are available in both HTML5 and Flash.

Html5 is good enough (for me) when my panos work on most devices. The spec includes a lot that are not neccesary for panos.
You can test your devices on this one, it's done with krpano 1.17 preview. It will be interesting to know what works and what doesn't.
