26-Gigapixel Photo Breaks New Record

Hi everybody, I just found this this morning...
"A new, 26-gigapixel panoramic image of Dresden, Germany, is now the world’s largest-resolution photograph. Taken from the rooftop of the “Haus der Presse” building, the giant panorama is made up of 1,665 individual shots captured with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera and a 400mm lens. This massive number of shots were taken with the help of a photo-robot, in the course of less than three hours, but the processing took 94 hours using a computer with 16 processors and a main memory cache of 48 Gigabytes."

Cheers,

Sébastien

it's a pity that the server scaling does not match the size this pano

so it's kinda frustrating looking for long moments on pixel replication while zooming in

Congrat ! If you were at 3rd Autopano user meeting in cologne, you've meet the author or Dresden. He was there and showed to the attendees the clauss rodeon head.
BTW : autopano is behind that record.

I agree, the webserver is a bit slow.

This was also commented on at Photoradar.com http://www.photoradar.com/news/story/26-gigapixel-photo-breaks-world-record and interestingly is disputed - always someone done it bigger and better, just not so well publicised!

Are you sure the server being the culprit ?

Here, in Grenoble, at 11:45 in the morning, using France Telecom La fibre optical fiber line, both zooming and panning are fast and smooth...

Hello from Dresden

We had some difficulties with the servers. We have planned with 20,000 visitors. On the first day we had 250,000 visitors. During the subsequent days the visitor's number rose constantly to almost to 1,000,000 / day. Now we have several big servers in the net. Now the Internet site should also go faster.

We had not planned this run. We only wanted to point to a customer of ourselves, actually what is possible.

Also our sponsor / partner has published the project too early. We were still with the mistake search. It has simply run over us.

Sorry for my bad english.

Happy christmas all. :)

Happy X-mas Holger.

Your image is making its way around the web 2.0 world so I guess you will see even more traffic.

How`s your server setup ?

Using Amazon S3 and full cached html you should be able to take hell of a lot of traffic.
