i demand a honest answer - is autopano dead?

by PanoMonster » Tue Sep 27, 2016 10:13 am

hello, i bought auotopano a while back and when gopro bought kolor i feared for the worst.

now my fears have become facts.

the development of autopano is going nowhere as it seems.
all kolor is doing today is producing software for videos.

i want to know if the development of autopano is dead?

and if not what are the plans for the future?

many month ago i asked this very same question and the only answer i got was "kolor is thinking about v5".
nothing happend, not even bugfixes.

i guess your customers deserve a honest answer what your plans are for autopano.

Dear PanoMonster,

your talk about following posting: http://www.kolor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=30280&p=182736#p182736 ?
if yes: you got Reply from User AlexandreJ, he is the founder and CEO of Kolor, now part of the GoPro Family. So you can trust his postings...

as he wrote in earlier postings, autopano rendering engine is basis for autopano video.
ok last time public focus was on video production.
That does not mean in consequence autopano is dead, maybe a private beta for autopano 5 is on the way as it was on previous versions (I myself was taking part in such a beta and it took more than 6 months, daily giving feedback to kolor team... all without the "public" was aware about....)

so when Alexandre is replying to your and others to exact this topic, like in:
http://www.kolor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32773&p=187139#p187139
than I think you can be reassured a v5 will come...

... maybe with an public beta so all can give feedback or with private beta so such people asking for being betatester will/can do the job...

Georg

Perhaps this is something to do with the "KEN" project http://forgejs.org
I hope that whatever they do it is compatible with existing tours.

to be honest i don´t have much hope for kolor.
the lack of official response here tells me a lot.

kolor sold out to a failing company. just look at the gopro stock.
even the second edition of the karma drone is a big failure.

they promise an update or at least bugfix for autopano for a year now.. nothing happens.

Incorrect. I'm assuming you missed the beta release of Autopano 4.4, end of January? http://www.kolor.com/2017/01/31/panoram ... -4-beta-1/

yes indeed i missed that beta. thanks for the heads up.

it´s good to see that after a year kolor at least works on bugfixes.
thought not much new in this version to be honest.

What about Panotour, is Kolor putting efforts in keeping this software?

Hi... Not sure how you can "Demand" an honest answer but I can understand your frustration in not knowing..

I would like to give a honest answer but I do not know for sure.. But, I would give an honest guess that Kolor would never allow Panotour to die off.. There would be many factors Kolor would need to consider.. A big one would be the integration of krpano within Panotour and the many issues it causes.. To me its obvious there are many restrictions in what the Kolor team can do.. They are bound by what krpano allows for.. Therefore, I would guess that the Kolor DIV Team are working like beavers to recreate a brand new Panotour from the ground up, and probably using ForgeJS to create a GUI for the new Panotour.. Kolour are full of secretes these days.. They need to be.. To me it's obvious that something amazing will emerge since never before in the history of Kolor, have so many programers been employed...

I would suggest you give Kolor time.. I am sure you will not be disappointed.. Well, we can only hope we are not..

Destiny..

Hey Alexandre,

Sorry for bugging you but any news for a version 5 before end of 2017 or early 2018 or mid 2018 or... ?
Same question for Panotour.

We are not all focusing on video (even if I understand that GoPro IS).

So many suggestions or improvements requested without a single answer from your team :/

Merci les gars de rallumer cette petite lumière que nous avons perdu ces derniers temps.
