The new Website Design SUX

by PanoMonster » Mon Mar 23, 2015 1:38 pm

i have to say the new design is a very bad move.

it´s not intuitiv. you get way too much advertising and "visual toystuff" in the way of real information.

it´s like some first semester in websdesign has pulled all breaks but forgot that a website has to be intuitiv and straight to the point. i have to click around to find something, i am bombarded with candy graphics.... but the real information is hidden under all this visual "trash".

i can´t even describe how bad i find the new design without sounding insulting... it´s really really bad.

why are you doing so many annoying pages you have to click through?

"ultimative immersion" who cares...?
and i have to click this page, that does nothing more than saying "immersion", away every time. :(
that´s bad bad design that only annoys the visitors.

Hi, thanks for your feedback.

We've only just put the new site online, so some pages are still in transition and links have to be recreated/fixed. Could you tell me what information you are trying to access that is hidden?

What page are you clicking on that brings you back to the front page?

Annis

first i have to say i am a longtime user so i don´t need all the info what autopano is or does.
so i bookmarked the page where you post all the news (new releases etc).

i guess i can find such a page when i search long enough. but i also guess it´s way more cluttered than before.

now my critic on the overall new design is that, when you click a link you get to a page that does nothing.. has no useful information.

i click on a link at the top and a new page opens with some eye candy that does nothing more than to ask me "do you want to learn more?"
so what? it´s a completely unnecessary page.
a "roadblock" if you like or a bump on the street to slow down the traffic.
what do you expect people to do on such a page?
that´s the question you should ask yourself (for any page) and how to make that as easy as possible.
i only noticed after a while that i can just scroll down instead of pressing that arrow button.

i know that experienced user find this kind of useless stuff annoying.

another point is, while i like flexibility you have often 3 navigation bars on a webpage which direct you to other pages.
and that even changes from page to page as i noticed. worse than that when scrolling the bars move (jump). sometimes they are only visible after a few seconds.

it feels like a labyrinth. i don´t know.. do i have to click on the top links the links below it or the bottom links.

what the website needs (imho) are fast and clear links to NEWS, FORUM and DOWNLOADS.
prominent on the first page.

best is to have one place where you go for navigation. not two or three navigation bars.

i mean i can get around this even when it´s annoying.
but i bet that many less web savy persons will not like this and will find it even less intuitiv.

and don´t get me started on the stripes design......

Each software has it's own specific download page now, and a general page should be up pretty soon.

Examples:
http://www.kolor.com/autopano/download/
http://www.kolor.com/kolor-eyes/download/
And so on...

I can appreciate that. The new site is much much more oriented towards new users, who have no idea what we do or how.

I don't think the blog has been completely transferred over to the new site yet.

Yes, my first impression is that the design is awful.

I have a slow net connection and it takes an age to load some pages.

The design seems to ignore every established useability guideline.

Thank you all for your feedback.
It's a big change indeed, with a website focusing on the results that our software range can provide, before detailing the features.
I took note of your different remarks, especially for the time loading of some pages. Our tests were made with a fiber connection, which of course worked very well, but also with a standard DSL connection and 3G. But I see that the home video is not loading for you, Klaus. We'll need to replace it by at least a photo, for slower connections. I'll keep you updated here.

Best,
Rami

Like the redesign for the forum the new web site design is just so profligate with screen real estate, it's just not dense enough on screen.

So one is forever having to scroll the page.

Here are few typical examples, not that one has to search far to find examples:

Hi Rami!

It´s not about the connection-speed - i have a 32000k cable connection. It´s about - sorry - childisch design. I hardly can read what´s beyond this crazy diagonal stripes. Seems, nobody at Kolor tests the design before being launched . . Makes clients meditating about Kolor testing it´s applications before launching . .

I talked to some guys commercially dealing with panorama-photography - they´re just laughing, can´t believe it.

In my eyes - to be frank - you´re risking your credibility of being developers who must be taken seriously! By launching such a confuse website presenting products which - sorry again - in parts don´t even work as expected . . and need MONTHS of sorrying and unfullfilled promising the clients who bought the device. "The new firmware will everything do fine" - does it? . . .

I mean: **** happens. Everywhere. But please don´t make it worse launching THAT kind of website.

best to you, Klaus

You cannot even see some of the interface, until you put your mouse over it.. and the Kolor name is invisible since its white text on white background.. And as for the text in middle here.. oh my goodness.. Just horrible.

Sorry Kolor, but I would have to say that this is the worst conceived website I have ever seen. A good website need to engage the viewer, not irritate them..!

Hi Destiny, some video contents seem not to load properly. We replaced them with photos; the Academy page should show a photo instead of the white background. Can you reload?

Combined with the nervous movements: no. That´s not better.
Which sense do the diagonal stripes have at all? They "rule" the site much too much!

It seems to me that many aspects of the new design are more reminiscent of a design for print than for the web.

Print design and web design are very different things, but graphic designers (as opposed to web designers) often seem to confuse the two and try to impose print design styles on web pages.

Background videos and virtual tours have nothing to do with print design!

Much much better without those horrible lines. It also looks much better on my Tablet. The top banner menu still needs a stable fixed graphs so the menu and text are always visible.

But the profligate use of web/screen space does.

I think the large background videos and VTs are gratuitous, distracting and just soak up bandwidth. There are many potential and current customers who don't have fibre connections.

Yes, just for your eyes Destiny: a slower, more opaque video with no stripes :) I'm glad you enjoyed it.

BTW, the font you used to write "Horribe" is quite horrible too :) But let's have a chat tomorrow about all that. Good night for now.
