interesting: they put 3 Kinects into their rotating camera.

The results are rather badly mapped - but nevertheless an intersting way . .

best, Klaus

Certainly interesting, but if they can't make the quality be better i don't see it pushing even fisheye-panoramas away from the market

Completely different approach - you can´t do that with fisheye-photography. The "camera" works as a 3D scanner and builds point-clouds which you can build
meshes from. This way you don´t need to model the whole scene from scratch.
The badly mapping comes from the low image-resolution of the 3 Kinects. Kinect 2 will have better resolution . .
But it´s an interesting step forewards on the road of building completely 3D based sites for being able to make kind of dolly-moves on rails inside rooms.

I heard from experiments using the same basic scanning of the room but simultanuously shooting photographs with a 5D2 for achieving good maps.

We´ll see ;)

best, Klaus

I know it is a different technology, I just said that with the current quality i don't see competing with even panoramas made with fisheye.

I guess you refer to autodesk photofly ?

Well as long as you make it REAL 3D ;-) and not 2.5D

Very cool and they already have 12 times as much money compared to what they asked for ;-)
I prefer such independent sollution compared to google.
Just wonder about the need processing power to make a 3d model from it. I will start saving ;-)
