OpenGL / GPU power

Got some great idea or a feature request? Post it here and discuss it. The most requested concepts are usually implemented, as Autopano Pro / Giga is very community driven.

OpenGL / GPU power

by DrSlony » Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:50 pm

I saw a panorama stitcher (don't remember the name) that uses OpenGL to speed up rendering. Thats seems like a great idea!

There are several scientific projects that use idle CPU power to calculate protein folding or search for signs of intelligence in outer space, like folding@home.com or seti@home.com. If you take a look at the progress rate of these projects, there are incredible boosts in times when these programs started making use of graphics processing units. Take this graph for example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/32/FAH-tflops.PNG The huge increase in TeraFLOPs occured when playstation 3 support was introduced. Why am I mentioning this? Well, if APP could use GPU power, not only CPU power, to perform calculations, image how fast it would be then!

I would love to see GPU power used for rendering as well since I have an SLI system
