Multithreading in texture manager and in photo loading

Got some great idea or a feature request? Post it here and discuss it. The most requested concepts are usually implemented, as Autopano Pro / Giga is very community driven.

Multithreading in texture manager and in photo loading

by DrSlony » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:36 pm

Two enhancement requests, both for multithreading:
1- When opening a .pano file which uses TIFF files (not raw, so no demosaicing), I notice only one CPU is used.
2- When opening the panorama editor window, the high resolution texture manager also uses only one CPU, and this step can take quite some time especially if the panorama is bracketed (so 3 times more photos = 3 times longer waiting)

Gentoo 64, 8GB RAM, Nvidia drivers 290.10 (render test passed), Geforce GTX 285M.

1) Opening a .pano will stay as a monothreaded. We won't gain much here because, it's TIFF reading issue and not related to the algorithm.
2) Exactly the same in the editor. The texture manager is in it's own thread. The fact, it's slow, comes from tiff format, not really because of the algorithm over it. Just do the same test in jpeg format and you will be amazed.
