render settings not impacting file size

by SSS360 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 9:43 pm

I have been toying with render settings in APV with not much differentiation in my file size results. Its not making ANY sense to me. I tested renders on a 30 sec video at 1920 and 1440 with the all other variables constant and the file size difference was 2 mb!
constants:
mp4
NTSC 30fps
34000KBPS
audio 160KPBS
Aspect Ration Keep in pixel size

I did another test where I kept resolution constant and changed fps. I did two renders, one at 60fps and the other at 30fps, and the file sizes were identical!!

How can it be that a much smaller resolution render be equivalent in file size to a higher res, or halving the fps, from 60 to 30, still yield a file size equal to what it was before?

Anyone else done tests and encountered this?

Hi SSS360,
The bitrate value drive the size of the video (file size = bitrate * duration), so if you only change the resolution or the framerate without changing the bitrate it's normal to have two videos with roughly the same size.
You can change video quality without touching to the resolution, and you can export 1080p video with much better quality than 4k video.
