Downscaling is performed *really* poorly

by Amidee » Thu Oct 08, 2015 6:12 pm

Hi there,
so basically when we were viewing our 2160x2160 TB renders, we noticed some serious crappy aliasing.
see this: https://imgur.com/FkGqwlD

I got curious so I exported a frame at full resolution (11K) and downscaled it to the same resolution with Preview (so nothing really fancy)

this is what i got:

so I exported two 4096x2048 videos for the two eyes, and then made a premiere project and exported the result at 2160 resolution:

which is kinda acceptable, especially when compared to the 2160 straight out from AVP

APG has a lot of interpolation options, can we carry that to AVP? Or at least choose a better one please! ( :

Actually, I don't think the interpolation is the issue in this case.
In APG workflow, we adapt the size of the sources according to panorama size (kind of mipmaping).
In AVP you will have the same workflow in CPU rendering but not in GPU. So the GPU interpolation is made on original video sources which are too big for rendering smooth 2k file in your case.

In most of AVP work flow, source sizes and rendering size are consistent (ie full source resolution is needed). It explains why we do not work on it today.

In current version, the default size exposed in "maximum size allowed by source" (if you don't change it) is the "adapted" rendering size. If your real rendering size is more than divided per 2, you will have this sharp effect.

I add the request in the AVP wish list.
