Autopano Video Pro 2.2.0 - GPU processing is horribly slow

PostPosted: Fri Sep 11, 2015 6:02 pm

I upgraded to the latest Autopano Video Pro 64bit version and now my render frame rate is 0.58 fps with the fastest settings (asynch GPU processing). Using synch GPU processing or CPU processing is slightly worse at around 0.48 fps.

With the previous version of AVP 64bit, I would render at 3.5 fps - 5.7 fps.

Have other people seen this as well?
Could it be that stabilization being used during rendering regardless of if you try to use it?

Please suggest a benchmark I can try to confirm that it is the software and not my computer causing the issue. Also, I would like a copy of the previous version of AVP, since the files on my computer were lost after the upgrade.

Thank you.

Hello Adam,

All previous versions are available on the website:
http://www.kolor.com/fr/telecharger-les-anciennes-versions/

Could you tell us a little bit more about your hardware config (CPU / GPU), so that we could try to reproduce this behavior ?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Adam,

If you click Edit > Settings, then click Check (under GPU Processing), is VP using the correct GPU, rather than the integrated graphics card?

Hi Thomas,

Here are my specs:

CPU--
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz

GPU--
OGL Version: 3.3.0
Render: GeForce GT 240/PCIe/SSE2
Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Shader Version: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
MaxTextureSize: 8192
MaxTextureUnits: 4
MaxColorAttachement: 8
MaxRenderBufferSize: 8192

I enjoy using your product, and have appreciated how quickly it can process videos, so I hope there is some simple fix.

@jonlank: Thanks for the idea, but I do not have an integrated graphics card. AVP lists my correct card.

I reinstalled the previous version version of AVP that I had (v2.0.1) and rendered the same project in v2.2.0 and v2.0.1. The project had been created in v2.2.0.

I took screenshots to record the rendering rates in each version and you can see that rendering was 10.5 times faster in the older version!

Why do you think this is the case and how can it be corrected?

Hi Adam,

We did some tests, and unfortunately, we did not reproduced this issue yet.

To track down this issue, it would be good to send your .kava project file, and give us the specs of your input videos (resolution and framerate).

You can also try some of the beta versions of Autopano 2.2 (intermediate versions between 2.0 and 2.2) to find which version caused this regession on your computer. These versions can be found here:
http://download.kolor.com/avp/beta/history

As a guess, you could start with the 2.2.0 beta 3 version...
As the problem is only GPU, a check of your graphics driver version is always a good start (just download latest ones from nvidia website).

Hope we could find a solution for that!
Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

What is your preferred way of receiving files? Should I send my .kava file to an email address?
Will you also want a set of videos?

My input videos are each 1920 x 1440 at 30 fps (AVP calls it 29.97 fps). I was using 5 videos.

I will try the beta software later this week.

-Adam

Hi Adam,

You can send the kava file using private messaging on the forum or make it publicly available (dropbox, google drive...).

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I received the same results with the latest beta version.

...AVP 2.2.0 Beta 1, the closest beta to v2.0, is the same as well.

After more installations and testing, I've found all 2.0 versions are fine. Only 2.2 versions render slowly, including the latest released version.

Next I will try updating my video card drivers.

Installing the latest version had no effect. I tested rendering the same project with version v2.2.1 and the frame rate was identical.

I'm noticing the color correction does not carry over from the 2.2.x versions of AVP to the 2.0.x versions, so I do need a solution soon.

Thank you,
-Adam

Do you think it could be that the processing in v2.2.0 only goes full speed in Windows 10?
