Realtime preview vs. Rendered output

Hi all

My rendered output (ProRes 422 LT, 7930x3950) seems to have issues which aren't visible within the realtime preview:
- I appear twice on the rendered output, preview looks ok
- It looks like the videos are not in sync, preview does not show that

Screenshot of AVP rendered video in QuickTime. I am sledging down the snow on a tire with a second me in front of me. It also looks like the tire has turned, which indicates out of sync?

- How is this effect called and how can I prevent it?
- Did I do something wrong in the workflow?

I did follow these steps in AVP:
1. Import footage using GoPro Importer
2. Adjust stitching setting to "Current selection"
3. Compute RMS curve
4. Apply color correction
5. Set exposure compensation
6. Set blending preset to "Sharp"
7. Render with ProRes 422 settings

I did not compute camera motion "Stab", as the camera is mounted on a tripod and did not move during the whole recording. Also I did not sync the videos as they were captured on a GoPro Omni rig.

Cheers
-Luca.

Hi.. Are you able to share your Omni video footage..

Its becoming apparent that the Omni Rig is just about the best solution, shame it cost so much.. The blending is nice and apart from the Nadir issue and the region you have mentioned, there does not seem to be much in the way of parallax issues...

I think the colour balance needs a bit of work.. Sometimes, if the footage is too dark, with a pano image, it can effect the stitching.. Not sure if that would be the issue with your video.. Did you know about the Red Greed dots for editing. I have not played with them much but that might be your solution..

Hi Destiny

Thanks a lot for your reply. So the issue is called "Nadir" and "Red Greed dots" could help? Have to look these up. Sadly I can't share the footage right now as the internet connection is very limited here.

How can you tell that the colour balance needs some improvements? I thought the auto colour correction would do the trick and that day it looked more or less like that. :-)

Hi.. The Red and Green dots are related to the Mask Editor.. I have seen some really great results using that option.. I am sure it will work with your video..

The Down is the Nadir.. It seems all your issues are related around that area.

Sometimes, even though the image appears as it was on the day... A bit of editing is not a bad thing.. In your case, I would brighten it up a touch in Levels.. Perhaps on 1.. makes all the difference..

Hi,
are you reading the video in real time with Quicktime ? If the computer is lagging, it could also create some artefacts when playing the footage back. Have you tried just pausing ?
It seems strange that doubling / ghosting artefacts would appear on a final render and not in the preview in AVP.

Hi
Yes, playback of the ProRes 422 LT file seems to work just fine with a MBP 2016 (460/4GB).

I think the problem is with my recordings. Just tried an the "smart cutting" blending - same result with many out of sync scenes. Have a look at the example below. It's close to the end of the video and I'm in twice.

I've watched the videos of the 6 cameras and there are some image errors once in while. Could this have an impact over time to the syncing of these videos?

have you used the synch module at all ?
could you send an image of the synch tab and / or the files + project file with a download link ?
thanks !

Hi

I didn't press the "Apply" button on the Synchro module. Do I have to perform something in this section? Isn't it already synced out of the GoPro Omni? What would I have to perform there?

I do not know if it's related.. but transfer speed on GoPro Omni Importer is significantly reduced on the SD card from Camera 3, also all cards get really hot. Footage does look good after the files have been merged.

Nope, it's just that you were originally talking about the synch module, so I thought you might have done something with it.
Would you be able to share a link to the footage so I can have a look ?
Thanks

Hi again

I just thought it's related to syncing...
I've shared all the files @ https://nasa.uemd.ch:9443/sharing/z1tJiGtsJ

In the meantime I've rendered another video (using the fresh release of AVP 2.6.0). There the output is in sync without applying extra sync / stab. So I just worked on the Control Points and auto color correction.

Are you able to tell if my recordings are corrupted? Is there a way to validate the files before rendering them?
