Wobbly seams!

by aprilmedia » Wed Apr 27, 2016 6:55 pm

Hi. We have attempted to shoot inside a car by fixing the rig to the windscreen interior. We knew there would be some shake, which wasn't actually so bad, the problem is down the seams where the different cameras join it clearly shows the cameras wobbling independently of one another.
Why do they do this? Surely if autopano stitches the videos together using a reference jpg frame, why aren't they locked together so all cameras shake as one?
Is there a way to fix this beyond image stabilisation, which doesn't really help even on 100%?
Thanks!

That is because the rolling shutter problem of cmos sensors of cameras, you get a lot of vibration fixing the rig to a chasis /windscreen/ect of the car and that accentuate the rolling shutter effect, you need to put some antivibration device between the rig and the car. Maybe you can try some rolling shutter correction filter to the original files before import them into autopano to see if that helps, anyway that filters may blur your video.
Best regards.
Jesus.

Hi, Thanks, good thought - I'll try that.
It's as though the 4 cameras are moving independently of one another. The sync is bang on as ensured it frame accurate in FCPX then exported, and if APV locks the videos together then like you say the rolling shutter could be the culprit.

Rolling shutter fix didn't work. Made it almost impossible to get a good stitch, and wobble just as bad.
Nevermind, was worth a try!

I have the same! It looks like a few of the cameras have been "stabalized" and a couple jiggle like flicked jello. Yes, I was holding it. This issue has to be fixed, as this is how I need to use the 360 cam. Do I have too few cameras? Freedom360 w/ 6 GoPros.

Having this exact same problem.

If anyone finds a solution, is it a problem solved while shooting? or is it meant to be solved in post-production?
