audio recording 360 video

Hello All,

For video, it is all on the website of how to built a 360 video. But how does it work with audio that i would like to attach. Also the audio should turn when i turn my head in a VR headset.

Was looking at 3Dio or sound field microphones. But then, how do i implement 8 or 4 audiotracks into my video.

Hi,

It really depends on which hardware / app you are using for playback. Samsung has its own implementation for spatialized audio. Kolor Eyes do not support it for now.

Hi all,

Most VR talk is about visuals only, whereas sound makes at least 50% of the experience.

The following workflow will add incredibly good 3D sound to Kolor videos. It can be broken down to these steps [edited]:

1. Mix your audio scene with Auratorium (ask them for a beta version): http://www.auratorium.com

2. Set Auratorium to receive Kolor's head-tracking data and time code through UDP.

That's it.

Record with Zoom H4n, 4 discreet tracks, develop a player in unity with an audio source for each of that 4 tracks at they respective position, thats it.

As a developer i made 360º players for oculus, osvr and gearvr, is not that hard, and with the approach i said you get the real sound from where you record the 360º video not a simulated room. If you dont have a good recording hardware like Zoom you can use the audio from all the cameras you stitched.

I do have a Zoom, but this is not what I'd call good recording hardware. That would begin somewhere between Soundfield Microphones and Eigenmike (still not good enough).

You can achieve a much higher quality and realism with a real auralization method. I agree that available solutions are by far not good enough. That's why I'm happy I found such think like Auratorium (however not released yet), which comes from a room acoustics lab, not from a game studio. (And it also can process 1st Order B-Format recordings and rotate them with the Kolor Eyes tracking data, quite nice for background tracks)

I have been looking for details of the best way to record audio for my setups.. without breaking the bank..

I am intending to build a similar setup.. using Zoom H6 and 4 x Rode Video Mic Pros.. so a big comprise but way better than using mic in the GoPros.

I was just going to build a sound stage in FCP X or Premier.. but that would not allow for head tracking..
http://www.auratorium.com/ looks like it will do the job if I can source a copy... but workflow complexity is building.. would be ideal if AVP could handle audio directly in a better way.

I would need to number mics and take a note of direction in relation to tracks etc.. not a biggy.. but just adds to list of things I need to do..

Most of what we do is for FB or Youtube at the mo... but would really like to have better audio for headsets with tracking

we've developed:
- a 360 video/audio player
- a microphone rig for direct 360 audio recording
- a workflow that allows us to put any "standard mono/stereo" recording in a 360° environment...very useful if u wanna have clean track (i.e. actor voice)

we're gonna put out a new video (for Kula Shaker) in next days....now u can find just a demo we made with a local metal band.

Actually i believe that 4 mics is a too poor solution...i just can't imagine how could it work....i mean...u have 2 ears that works in pair. People who tryed....how do u get right/left channel from only 4 mic?

Anyway, if u need an audio solution....we can say that i've seen only our system and the one from VRSE (U2 video) currently working on the web. Does any of u have something working or just speaking/studying about?

PS: 360AV player works on any platform u could need (web html....facebook (!)...OSX...Win...iOS...Android...Android with GEAR VR) as a standalone app. Our sound engineers could handle each part of the post needed to prepare 360 audio from "standard" audio....with proper software and binaural simulation plug (not a cell phone app eheheheh)
