Stitching Alignment AVP

by aprilmedia » Sun Mar 06, 2016 10:37 pm

New to AVP, testing it and although have managed to successfully make short videos (using 6 x go pro 4 array), the stitch lines are slightly misaligned (see attached). The sync is absolutely spot on to the frame as we did it externally in FCPX and then fine tuned to the MS in AVP. I can't find tutorial / any guidance on how to fix this. Can you point me in the right direction please! Or is this just a limitation with the 6 camera rig at close distances? Thanks

Hi guys,

This is just a matter of distance & parallax. You can focus the stitching on a fixed distance but not on the foreground and background at the same time.

You can use the control point editor in Autopano Giga (http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/vie ... nts_Editor) and the masks (http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/vie ... sking_tool) to get a better stitching. Then you'll be able to fix some things in post prod with AE or FCPX.

Cheers,

Martin

Martin,

<<<You can use the control point editor in Autopano Giga and the masks to get a better stitching>>>

Referencing my post ( viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30804&p=179807#p179807 )

Can you please clarify as I'm a beginner and although I went thru tutorial it's some what confusing as I try to reference my case and which exact steps must be applied.

The misaligned wall:
Which function will help fix this as it seems to be 1 camera which is misaligned (i think)...
==> control point editor or the masks?

Motion of moving person:
Which function will help fix this...
==> control point editor or the masks?

Thank you for your patience and any help much appreciated...
Tutorials are great but may be challenging for beginners with tutorial referencing step by step to resolve a problem.

Thks

Why is there motion blur on person he’s within cam1…?

I went into APG to explore more on masking and noticed the following...

Here is a better image in Kolor Eyes of the blur effect on person who is within cam1...

Any suggestions on why there's blurring...?

Also buggy CUT TOOL when trying to do Masking...
For some strange reason I select the cut tool and try to follow this procedure but the CUT TOOL ICON does not appear as I hover over mask timeline... after clicking or re-opening the project it came back but disappeared once again...as I switch out of application to go to the web browser or other apps...

I have iMac OSX...latest versions of APV and APG...

Any suggestions?

My mask does not apply the changes...I placed green markers...hit checkmark to save...re-updated the preview outline...and nothing happens...

Why isn't it updating my changes to expand the mask...?
Also what is the transparency we see that goes beyond the camera lines...?

I would like to know if there are known bugs with APV and APG in OSX...?

Cause I was unable to easily follow the steps in the video MASKING EDITION...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eZmxN9sid8

See above problems encountered using the cutting tool and trying to expand the outline mask with no success...

I'm completely stuck at this stage...
I need to understand...
1- why do I have motion on a person who's within a camera...
2- why is the white wall (only that small section) misaligned...all the rest seems fine.
3- why isn't my masking/cutting tool functioning on osx?

Thks

Hi,

The misaligned wall:
Which function will help fix this as it seems to be 1 camera which is misaligned (i think)...
==> control point editor or the masks? Control Points

Motion of moving person:
Which function will help fix this...
==> control point editor or the masks? Masks, but not much you can do about it.

You cannot see any effects of your masks because you are using a smooth blending (DIAMOND), so in APG go into the blend icon, blending: multiband, level -2, cutting ISO, no Weighting. In AVP, blend -> sharp.

Then you should be able to push the seams.

What do you mean?

2- why is the white wall (only that small section) misaligned...all the rest seems fine.
Because of the parallax between the lenses of your RIG, the stitching cannot be perfect, it can be good on the foreground or on the background (depending where you put your control points), but not both at the same time.

3- why isn't my masking/cutting tool functioning on osx?
Already answered to this one.

Cheers,

Martin

I think you're mistaking smooth blending preset for "motion" in the subject. Like Martin said, switch to sharp blending preset and that ghosting on your subject will go away.

See photo...

Martin,

Does adding a fishlens (or i think flat lens) to each gopro eliminate these problems?
If so, will it fit in our Freedom 360 rig?

To avoid fish-eye...
can we easily change the FOV (gopro settings) from wide to medium to narrow using 2.7k 4:3 recommended setup from kolor...?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

<<<You cannot see any effects of your masks because you are using a smooth blending (DIAMOND), so in APG go into the blend icon, blending: multiband, level -2, cutting ISO, no Weighting. In AVP, blend -> sharp.
>>>

I tried your recommendations and applied your settings in APV and APG...
Then I hit the PREVIEW (gear at bottom-left corner) in APV...
I now see the sharp edge vs the blurry/feather blend effect...

Then I made a modification in a control point in APG...hit save...went back to APV...
I once again see the blurry/feather blend effect...
So I select the PREVIEW (gear at bottom-left corner)...and click on it...it then displays sharp edge...
If I continue to click on it it will toggle between both the sharp edge vs the blurry/feather blend effect...

Why?

Am I missing something or is there a bug in the osx version...cause as mentioned above I applied your settings and saved in both apps...

I have this problem as well.

I hate to be whiner, but documentation on this is abysmal. I cannot get masks to translate at all into APV and I've tried switching between stitching and authoring as well as different blending modes. The only one that works is Smart blending, but it tells me I can't use Smart cutting in APV. I turned the stabilizer off and have no other adjustments that would affect smart cutting as these were 4 static cameras - as far as I know. It would be great if documentation actually explained why I can't use smart cutting or what I can do to enable it. Simply saying "use iso cutting instead" is extremely UNhelpful (and produces unusable results).

Very frustrating for the $800 I spent on this bundle.

Why?

You have to use the same settings in AVP and APG. So if you are using the sharp mode of AVP (straight cuts) you need to use the ISO mode, without weighting. If you are going to use the smooth mode of AVP, choose diamond in APG. To understand the cutting modes: http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/vie ... g_settings

The smart cutting is not working in video because the "smart" choice would be different for each frame.

And masks are only working with ISO / sharp mode.

Hope it clarifies everything.

Martin,

Can you please look at the post link below...I'm unable to expand the mask...

I have followed your instructions on using the same settings in AVP and APG...
