Stitching best practices

by ChadHorn » Mon Nov 30, 2015 10:00 pm

I have a client that wants me to shoot a short skit in a warehouse. Large space, ~6 actors or so. We are using a Freedom 360 rig and I'm trying to figure out what pitfalls to avoid before we shoot the project. Test run last night and the stitching of the room looks beautiful, stitching of the talent when they move around the room looks pretty awful - distortion and ghosting and stuff like that at the seams. I know its possible to do, though, because you watch a video like this and they don't have the problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFRPXRhBYOI

We figure we want our talent to be roughly 4' to 6' from the camera, and not have anything within 4' of the camera. What else do we need to keep in mind to get the best render possible?

It looks to me like they did a few fixes in after effects. Specifically the girl playing the guitar has something weird going on ;-)

Ah, well that seems easy enough. Thanks.

I would definitely recommend to stay farther than 4' from the Rig. I have the freedom rig and stitching close objects can be really difficult. If it's possible stay farther away is my advice, and sync carefully! :-)

We shot a bunch of footage and there is one element that is consistently in that 4' range and we wanted to use the footage in the end so I've had to delve deep into after effects repair.
