Is there a list of supported video codecs (windows)? I just failed to stitch a photo jpeg movie as it came out and previewed black.

Unfortunately, it is not easy to answer as we are relying on the OS codec for decoding.
The general rule is: if your windows media player can play the videos, we can decode it too.

Ah ok so it is not limited to Mp4 then. In my case Windows media player, Quicktime and VLC can all play the photo jpeg movies but APV can not preview or render the stitch.

APV actually loads the video ok and they do display correctly and update in the 'Input Videos' panel when I change the time line. But the 'Realtime Preview' window remains black as do the renders.

I will try some more codecs today. I want to import a video with a loss less codec.

Can't get anything lossless to work...

Lossless AVI - Plays in windows media player - Does not Preview in APV
Animation codec .mov - Does not work in either
PNG.mov - Does not work in either
photojpg.mov - Plays in windows media player - Does not Preview in APV

Cineform highest quality did work but I don't have that codec where I need it. And it is not lossless.

Any suggestions?

Tried Lagarith lossless. Imported and previewed but the color space was mixed up in the preview and the out put...still searching.

I see no reason why lossless AVI should not work.

Why do you want to use AVI.. They are really restricted in who can view them.. I use a Mac so I cannot view them.. I also have a Samsung Note which cannot view them and anyone with an iPad cannot view them.. I would suggest mobile phones could not view them either since the file size would be way too big..

You are far better off using MP4, OGG or WEBM.. You can use a streaming player to use add all three where the device detects the best format...

If you need to use png images, I am assuming you have the sequence of images, you can create a keyframe movie from them.. I often do this for high quality movies... Do not worry about lossy too much since if you use a streaming video player, you can keep to a high optimisation reducing lossy mostly totally..

Hi
I need lossless for my work flow...Camera > After Effects > AVP > After effects > final output. I am working on 3D 360 that needs stereo alignment before stitching can happen.

Update: It is a GPU issue!

Using the CPU processing I get correct behavior from None and Lagarith compressed movies. With the GPU enabled I get a black frame for None and a color shifted frame for Lagarith. See pics...

Oh I see... I have not used the APV so not really sure of the issues.. Does the end produced video still remain as an AVI.. Do you get an option of format output..

Turns out not too bad. I can use the lagarith codec to work with lossless video. APV displays it incorrectly (when using GPU) but is is still perfectly useable for stitching. After rendering I need to swap the red and blue channels to get the color fixed....or I guess I could pre switch the channels before importing to APV.

Ok bad news on this and I am getting very frustrated.

I really need to use an uncompressed codec for my workflow but APVpro really doesn't handle them at all. Or to be more specific...it does not handle them with GPU processing. If I use CPU everything is correct. Of course this is much slower and the reason I paid for the Giga and Pro were for GPU acceleration on my nvidia Titan Black.

I decided last night to try H264 at the highest settings (300 mbps) as I thought APV was happier with H264 but again in GPU mode it screws up the rendering of the videos. Huge distortions and color weirdness that are not present when I use CPU only.

Does APV really only handle lower data rate movies on GPU? Very disappointing.

Looks like this was caused by unusual sized movies (not 1920 x 1080). Having made them all 'standard' it is now working.

Still looking for an uncompressed solution.
