Insta 360 Pro stitching problem

by piero_interiors3d » Tue Dec 26, 2017 11:02 am

Hi guys,
I'm newbie here. I have an Insta 360 Pro. I tried to stitch with autopano video 3.0 some videos but the result is very bad
How can I improve? Need I set the software?
Thanks

Hi.. I have been wondering about the Instra media output quality.. Great design cameras.. Love to test one out. I contacted them regarding obtaining some footage but I was ignored. I did not know that APV was compatible with the media from that camera. I just checked but no reference to the Instra. What lenses does it have. What makes you think it will work.. What does Instra recommend as far as software. Don't they have their own options????.

I am using APV V3 but I have no Instra footage to test... There does not seem to be an option for this camera.

Best to wait for Kolor tech to come back from holiday.. They will be able to answer you questions...

Destiny.

Hi Destiny,
Insta has his stitcher software and it works very well, but inside it I can't patch the nadir.
The lenses are 6 X F 2,4 fisheye lenses
If you want I can share with you some footage
Thanks

Hi.. Yes, I would love to test some media out..

Not sure how the nadir can be edited in video.. I did not think that was possible.. But I am no expert with 360 video. I do not own any hardware to capture 360 video..

To me there are only a few decent options to choose from.. The Instra is one of them but, thats a big call considering I have not played with the camera. I just like the design and specs..

Not sure when Kolor will be around.. Perhaps Monday.. They are probably on holiday..

Hi,
here the link
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
inside you'll find
1 - the origin file to stitch
2 - the mp4 stitched in Insta software
3 - the mp4 stitched in autopano video
4 - the project of kolor
You will see the stitching difference between 2 and 3 (in 2 is perfect, in 3 not)
enjoy it

eeks!.. I tried to download but it kept timing out.. Files are far too big.. Not to worry.. Do you have a link to the final media to view....

Re: Insta 360 Pro stitching problem

Hi.. Thanks for sharing that..

I am very surprised at the parallax issues.. For a camera like this I would expect it to be perfect. I am guessing if people were to walk past, or moving objects in the shot, this issue would be heaps more apparent. Its not a cheap camera...

I would try to use a different tripod.. A pole with small feet array.. Add a wight at the bottom so it does not fall over. That should minimise the nadir footprint. I do not know if its possible to remove the tripod with video.. I use a VR Drive but I don't shoot the nadir.. I edit it out using Photoshop.. In most cases I can do this. But.. If I cannot, I would use a Logo.. But, not sure if a logo can be added to a video.. I have the software but not much skill in using 360 video.. I have been hanging out for an affordable 360 video option..

The light from the Insta is good.. But I wonder how it would go with windows and sunlight..

How have you gone with moving object in your shots.. Do they have the same parallax issues.?? Are you happy with the camera??

The Insta is a very nice design. Many options fail in this area.. Its not an action camera design.. I would suggest the new GoPro Fusion will lose sales just on its design.. I feel GoPro miss the point on what an Action Camera should look like.. Mind you.. They sold millions of their other little cameras and I don't like their design either. So I guess I might be wrong.. But, one good thing the Fusion has going for it. It has Kolor inside.. I have yet to read many reviews from basic users but they will come in time. I have idea on a great use for it..

Hi,
the same video stitched with Insta Stitcher Software has no parallax, it's perfect
The problem there is with Autopano video, or I'm missing something
I'm waiting for Kolor Support
Bye

Hello and sorry for the late reply...and best wishes for 2018!

What you can do here to simplify the workflow, use Stitch as "Lens Model" (10.57mm/Fisheye) and check what you get. Apply some corrections with Autopano Giga if needed.
You can also add JPEG files to Autopano Giga, stitch the picts using the same focal/focal type values, add some corrections if needed and save your .pano file in order to use it to stitch your video footages.
Not sure D.WARP is useful here...

Let me know.

Best,
Olivier

Hi Olivier,
thanks for your reply.
I tried to stitch with focal lens 10.57mm but the video come out with parallax.
Check it out:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gBsqb ... wqzQ5htzeT

Later I tried to upload the mp4 to Autopano Giga, but it's impossible. Maybe I'm missing something...
I tried to use D.WARP but the video got worse
Can you help me?
I like Kolor softwares because there is something extra than Insta Stitcher Software
Is there in Italy someone who organizes training course with Kolor softwares?
Thanks

piero

Hello Piero,

Parallax issues must be corrected with Control points tool and/or Mask tool in order to make a better transition between 2 cams as shown in our video tutorials (summary: http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/vie ... umentation): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVOzb4Z ... e=youtu.be
Have you tried this?

We do not have any certified trainer in Italia, I'm sorry.

Cheers,
Olivier
