Spherical Aurora - Iceland

by olihar » Tue Mar 27, 2012 8:01 pm

I shot this image the other day, aurora activity has been pretty good here in Iceland lately, has even reached a point where it is simply to much to photograph, so I approcehed it with a spherical capture.

Image

For larger full screen version you can go here, You can click the globe bottom right and look at it in a spherical view.

What do you think about this.

Hi Olihar,

Nice shoot, but I wonder two things.

Is it real colour? I've seen it before and I don't remember that is so strong.
Did you aligned the panorama? Actually I have a doubt on the right hand side. The most distant mountains.

Anyway that is great .

Yes real colors, of course levels and curves have been added as I do with every image I work on, especially when shooting RAW.
You can check timelapse I shot the same night and the night after for reference in color, Time lapse of course does not have as long exposiour.

Yes panorama is aligned, but what do you mean by it, that it is not stitched correctly or?

Yes right. It seems to goes up. I don't realy know if it is me or if there is something wrong with the level. It is not huge of course but I think it is flat nearby.

I really like your timelapse. Just Awesome.

Where did you took these picture? in the north of Iceland or just in the middle?

Awesome. Hard to believe colors, but as I never had the chance to be there, I don't know :)
Nevertheless, a big wooohhh.
