Show on Mobile - Tablet - Desktop Button

by bobjones » Tue Dec 02, 2014 3:53 am

I have been creating separate versions for mobile and tablet using Javascript to load them. This is laborious and an unnecessary workaround with panotour.

If there was a simple advanced drop down menu for everything that had a check box (all three would be selected by default).

x show on desktop

x show on mobile

x show on tablet.

This would allow me to quickly and efficiently choose to show my menu on desktop and tablet while deselecting to not show it on mobile.

I could also create a thumbnail menu and deselect desktop and tablet and select to only show it on mobile.

Creating entirely separate versions for each device is ridiculous...

Yes it's a kind of "specific" plugins which is under discussion in our side to activate plugins only on some kind of devices.

I go to the develop menu in safari and use emulator to see how it would work under iPad etc.

Hey bobjones,

Would you mind sharing how your use JS to load the different versions of your tour? I have no javascript experience, by chance is there an easy chunk of code I can insert somewhere in the PTP files to make this happen? I also share your frustration with my tours' navigation, thumbnails, etc not looking correct on mobile devices.

I'm somewhat resigned to having to create a separate version of each tour, and hopefully using some JS (or other) method of sending my users to the correct tour for their device.

Thanks very much in advance,

I add this code to the head of the main tour html page.

<script type="text/javascript">
if (navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone|Android|webOS|iPod|BlackBerry|IEMobile|Opera Mini/i)) {
window.location = "mobile/virtual-tour.html";
}

</script>

I then create a separate tour and put it in a subfolder called "mobile"

Obviously change "virtual-tour.html" to whatever you name your tour html file.

Wow, thank you very much for the quick and detailed response.

So by subfolder you mean... if my main desktop tour was located here:
http:// www. domain.com/ desktop/ tour.html

I would locate the mobile version here?
http:// www. domain.com/ desktop/ mobile/ tour.html

Yep :-)

You can expand on that and create tablet versions with their own subfolder as well once you study the code and see how it works.
