Show/Hide Different Types of Spots

In the XML code there appears to be functions for showing and hiding different types of spots. For instance:
hidepanopicturespots();

So why can't we call these from the GUI?

I would love to be able to show/hide only point spots whilst leaving picture spots unchanged etc.
