Virtual tour of the Milky Way anyone?

Hey Gang,

Haven't posted in a while since I was busy with getting the business running but finally had some time for a new virtual tour. This time i tried something a little different...

Excellent night shot! Better than what i've ever taken thus far. Though, if I may dare say, color seems a desaturated and red shifted to sepia.

Fun thing to do for day/night shots... if you can capture both in the exact location, build the tour.... and edit the xml by replacing NULL with KEEPVIEW. A tour simple as yours presented would be easy edit. Open the main Build.xml and look for action name="mainloadpano" near the top.

        loadpano(%1,NULL,NULL,BLEND(1));

change the 4th line 2nd NULL to KEEPVIEW

This is will keep the directional view within the tour between the transitions of pano scenes. Great for timelapse.


2nd fun Idea... Just thought it'd be neat to play with Photoshop, layer the two panos (day & night) and erase some of the layer to reveal the time difference and then flatten image to a single scene. Could be opportunistic to express a cool, interesting & fun imagery idea. Having the two scenes captured in the exact spot is critical.

Hey Max.. This would make a great Day to Night transition in one pano but it doesn't look like the two panos were captured in the same exact location so perhaps you can fiddle with that.. If you want to try it, I will help you...

Also, a nice full pano image blended between the two would look cool too....

Thought for Des....hop in de Desmobile....drive to the Olga's, set up camp ammids of them and fight of some of the more toxic animals (Autralia is dubbed the Toxic continent in biologists circles), grab the Seitz and the D800, slab an 35 on the Nikon and make two spheres (at 12800 iso at night to freeze the stars in motion, the Nikon can take it)....remember to put the tripod up as high as possible without attracting dingo's to the scene to have a sharp nadir region...and of course wait for a non rainy day .....do the same during the day, make one each hour.....combine the 24 images using ATX's great idea.....and have a great tour.....

Yeaa it would, wouldn't it? I am actually going back to that location and doing another series of these day/night shots so maybe this time i can try to do it in the same spot and then we can try to do the day/night spin ?

Hi Max,
unfortunately i have seen your posting something late. I like your pano. But ... i have bad news for you, it is not the first one: http://www.wackel3d.de/gigapanos/milchstrasse/milchstrasse.html

I too have some airplane trails, an iridium flare too. And maybee one or two meteorites too. One or two constellations are marked in the pano (yes, must become more). Have fun.

Hi Max,

to be honest, it has been my first too. And when you zoom in deeply, you will see many faults. Stars are not sharp as they should be, they are shown as lines or ellypsis. Exposure time has been too long (30 seconds each pic), mirror bumb can be seen clearly, and some more faults.

So we both will enyoy the next try (oops, sunglasses for a near-dark-nightshot)
