I cant succeed...

vista 32 with merlin running:
pw 2.1.15.1 using - works with BT modul from TA via serial interface
DSLR Remote Pro Version 1.8.1 evaluation using...

I can connect I can move merlin via PW manually (arow keys and via presets....)
shutter release plugin set to DSLR Remote Pro
setting are default one I got for DSLR Remote Plugin.

I can start DSLR Remote Pro standalone and manage my Cnon EOS 400D (release button works)

If I start PW with 1images 1 row @ 18mm I get an error after stabilisation phase.
log says:

Are you sure this path is valid:

C:/downloads/DSLR

I would have used:

C:\downloads\DSLR

on windows...

is the error not pointoing to one of the .pyo files?

how should the normal pocedure be?
1. start DSLR and establish connection to canon cam
2. start papywizard...

PS:
papywizard\model\shooting.pyo is not found on my C: drive
papywizard\plugins\dslrRemoteProPlugins.pyo is not found on my C: drive
subprocess.pyo is not found on my C: drive

how are these files installed (by pw or from DSLR or manually...)
... I've no model and no plugin subfolder at all under pw install dir...

the library.zip file which gets installed with pw package - is it normal I cant open it with 7zip tool...
I installed pq twice to check installation problem...)

The pyo files are in the Library.zip file. I don't know why it is not possible to open it from Windows; works fine from gnu/linux... And the problem is not a pyo file missing, but in the path of the program launched by subprocess module.

Check the path of the DSLRRemoteTest.exe program; it is may be installed in another place...

BTW, try the new 2.1.16 release I just uploaded; you will be able to set the correct path if needed.

ah jep... error is complaining about C:\Program Files\...
its a german XP im working with...
in German its C:\Programme
under vista and win7 on german language you can use english names and german, both work.
XP obviously does not find to C:\Programme\.. if searching for C:\Program Files\....
my error...

pw 2.1.16 works perfect now for me: if I change default paths to adopt german language (program files -> programme) and the default windoww documents path contains in my family name a german umlaut... Kà¤fer is not recogniced, so I had to change the data dir for DSLR....

besten Dank,
Georg

Ok. I though I had fixed the user path with special chars... Sorry. I'll dig again.

DSLR Remote Pro plugin - focus stacking...

can I use the plugin in an economic way for focus stacking?
defining 0,0,0 for bracketing gives me three images with +-0 value. But I cant influence the time the shot will be done by DSLR...
can I anyhow pause the DSLR plugin so I can manually focus the cam?

I can do focus stacking by disabling brackeing and using single step mode ...

Georg

Try to manually launch DSLRRemoteTest.exe from a dos console, with the correct options to see if it works.

I don't remember, as I don't use Windows very often, but I think you don't have time to see anything in the dos windows before it is closed...

hi Frederick,

i tested and my camera will fire using dslrremottest from the dos prompt. when i try to use the dslr remote plugin from papywizard i just get the dos window 3 times but no camera firing. I have -2,1,0,1,2 for the user comp list. also the dots in the gui turn red. i did have trouble unziping the lib folder with winzip but unzipped it with another program. what directory should the lib folder be in? I looked for the dslrremote.pyo and the subprocess.pyo that i think mediavets mentioned and they are there. and the path the dslrremotetest.exe is correct. Ideas. should the installer be unziping the lib folder?

looks like the problem was operator error. i should have known when i saw exposure compensation that i could not be in manuel mode. i guess this limits the exposure range to that off my camera for exposure compensation + or - 2 stops . i guess the benifilt is you have access to other functions from your laptop ie iso and picture mode and white balence without touching the camera but i would love to see the ability to use dslr remotes autobracket because i frequently need to bracket 7 shots 2 steps apart to get the range i want. perhaps this is something that would have to be done by Chris Breeze in the dll . for now when i need to bracket that wide i will just use step by step mode and run dslr remote separately or the generic tether mode and the sleep command in the .bat

By 'manual mode' you mean on the camera? Did you try A mode or S mode? AFAIK, it work fine...

Hi Frederick,

yes it does work fine in A or S mode. Is there a way to get a greater range than -2 to +2 with a rebel xsi?

thanks
Chris

One way is to use a Promote Control - but that's another (and rather expensive) story...

DSLRRemotePro should do this too...

No, DSLR Remote Pro does not allow to go over Canon/Nikon limitations, because of the limitation of the Canon/Nikon SDK...

hmm. and indirectly...I can choose to take 5,7,11,x images with different exposure time or f falue using +2--2 in 0.5 or 0.33 steps. Would this not lead to same effect than having option to go further than the +2-2 EV limitation of the canon?

Yes, you're right. But I can't understand why manufacturers limit their product this way? There is a dedicated mecanism, and you have to use another one to do the same thing; amazing!

And you have to know that you can go behond this limitations: with gphoto2 and a little patch, I was able to do up to ±5EV on my Canon 20, instead of the standard ±2EV!

its to bad we can't use the autobracket feature of dslrremote with the plugin. i tried setting the user bracketing setting in the plugin to 0 and using the autobracket in dslrremote with 7 shots but the mount was going to the next position before it was done. i have used the generic tethered plugin with the "sleep for x seconds" line in the bat file. could we tell papywizard to sleep with the bat file indefinetely and the then wake him up with a comand from dslrremote? you can execute a program after taking a series of shots. this is all a little over my head so im making guesses.

You can use the step-by-step mode, and click on the Next button at the end of the shooting sequence...

And yes, it could be possible to wake up the plugins from an external call... I will add this to my TODO list.
