Hello Klaus, and Forum members!

Sorry if it comes across. Was not on purpose, but wanted my questions as short as possible.

I therefore try again.
Would information about me to my questions from the professionals very happy.

Would like the Merlin / Orion head except with a MacBook / parallels / PW furthermore equipped with a handy little device (Nokia xxx, or?) Operate.

Since I am but unfortunately Ebay no experience, it is impossible for me simply off such a device to purchase.
That's why I wanted to start with other alternatives.
A Nokia 9300 I was offered for sale.

My first steps with the Merlin, are 180x60 ° (2 rows with a `10 recordings to be. More is not currently planned, would like to first see how I come so clearly.
Once again a big thank you for info.

Hello everybody!

Today had my new Merlin / Orion head get, including the Canon DSLR Jack 3-pole. Now I just have the cable to contact the Canon S5is produce. I've also been a 2.5 mm jack plug 3-pin cable incl worried. This cable will I do with the USB cable from the S5is solder together.
Unfortunately, me the pin assignment of the two cable lost in the network and I find it no more.

Would be very nice if I get to the info for the cable Soldered would.

I will be the CHDK software on the S5is via SD card install.

An alternative could be: the Canon utility already installed on your Mac, and some Papywizard how to connect.

I hope no one with this spelling annoyed to have, and also hope to get info.

Danke schon mal in advance.

Canon S5is can use the Canon utility software and the USB cable remote. Works great!

That is why tomorrow I will be a USB plug with a solder.
Just hope that I connect the right pins.

Hi 120to120,

Hereafter you will find a picture with the connections for the Merlin/Orion camera cable ...
But as said by Mediavets, this cable will not work with your S5is !!! :/

As you intend to use the CHDK software, i suggest you to contact Gentle for the special CHDK cable
http://www.gentles.ltd.uk/gentled/compatability.htm#CHDK
http://www.gentles.ltd.uk/gentled/options.htm#CHDK

Pay attention that normaly this solution is only for RC control !

What choice do you made for the interface between Papywizard and the Merlin? Bluetooth, RS232/TTL convertor, Direct USB (e.g. FTDI...)

Canon utilty software running on a PC with USB cable connection between the PC and the camera works - of course.

But connecting the USB port on the camera to the camera shutter release port of the Merlin head directly via a hacked together cable will NOT work.

I have already told you how you might be able to make it work - using the special cable Claude mentions in his post above:

http://www.autopano.net/forum/p40738-2009-03-14-00-14-33#p40738

As the proverb says 'you can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink!'

But if you also have a Canon DSLR perhaps you might just use that camera on the Merlin and forget about using the Canon S5is with the Merlin and Papywizard?

So?

Is this a statement or a question?

What, if anything, has this to do with your ambition to control your Canon S5is from the Merlin camera port when shooting panos using Papywizard?

Good day!

A question for you professionals:

I've now decided to but a used Canon DSLR to buy.

Alternative: Pentax K100, cable remote control has the same pin configuration as Canon?

Someone used the Pentax?

Information for the purchase would be very helpful, thank you for that.

Mediavets Hello!

Configuration clandevh has asked, so my answer.

Versteh not quite the case. Are there any alternatives, how to trigger a camera can move?
Thought to myself, I mounted the camera on the head and connect with the cable jack, and then I can control everything by car.
Maybe my thinking is totally wrong.
Hence my request for info.

OK let's have another go at explaining.

When shooting a pano with Merlin/Papywizard the only thing that the camera port on the Merlin head is able to do is trigger the shutter of the camera and then only if the camera can work with a wired or IR remote control.

You Canon DSLR should work fine with the camera cable supplied with the Merlin head.

Your Canon S5is does not have - is not capable of working with - either a wired or IR remote control AFAIK.

However you may (no guarantees) be able to get your Canon S5is camera to work with the Merlin/Papywizard system if you install CHDK on your camera and use this special cable from Gentles Ltd, which will enable you to connect the camera port on the merlin head to the USB port on the camera, but (because it is designed work work via radio control as built) you will have to further modify this cable to provide power to it and to attach a 2.5mm jack to it:
http://www.autopano.net/forum/p40738-2009-03-14-00-14-33#p40738

...........

What platform you choose to run Papywizard on - whether it be a Nokia Tablet, a Windows PC, a Mac OSX system, Windows on a Mac, or a Linux PC - makes no difference to the isue of connecting a camera to the Merlin head.

The smallest, lightest and least expensive portable host for Papywizard is a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet bought used. Try eBay there is usually a few available.

Moin, 120x120 (??)

The connection Merlin/Camera - either via the DSLR 3-pole or a 2,5mm jack - is JUST for release the shutter/AF . . it just short-cuts the circuit.
Via USB that makes no sense.
But you can connect your camera ADDITIONALLY via USB to use the Canon-utils - i wouldn´t do that.

I suggest - as Anderew and Claude - to use a N800/810 running PapyWizard via a Bluetooth interface like the one from Teledcope Austria.
Smartphones don´t work - they´re not running a propriate OS for using PapyWizard.

Dear forums members!

Have your Council complied, and sent me a Nokia N800 "bought.

Since the devices are present:

D1X; S2pro Fuji, Sony f-717/R1; Oly C-8080, Canon S5is;

I do not want to buy another system.

Have to test a Canon G2 with IR trigger here.
Can I use the G2 + PW also aim to come?

Would be nice if I get info.
Danke schon mal.

Good.

Since the devices are present:

D1X- modify an MC-30 compatible wired remote control, there are very cheap models on eBay.

Fuji S2pro - as far as I know this camera offers no wired or IR remote control capability and if that is corrcet then you will not be able to trigger the shutter from the Merlin head.

Sony f-717/R1 - use the Gentles-JUMP IR trigger device with the cable supplied with the Merlin head.

Olympus C-8080 - use the Gentles-Jump IR trigger device with the cable supplied with the Merlin head. This camera has on offset tripod socket you will need to make a bracket of some sort if you wish to set the lens in line with the axis of rotation on the Merlin head.

Canon S5is - as far as I know this camera offers no wired or IR remote control capability but you may be able to trigger the shutter using the solution I have already described here:
http://www.autopano.net/forum/p40738-2009-03-14-00-14-33#p40738

...................

I really don't begin to understand why you would wish to use all these cameras with Merlin/Papywizard - can you explain?

I don't know whether the same model variant of Gentles-JUMP will work with both the Olympus C-8080 and Sony F-717 - you will have to ask James Gentles about that.

Sorry, I expressed myself wrong.

The list should only show what cameras are available for selection.

I just wish, if possible without the "Gentle-trigger" any of these cameras use.
My idea was to create a cable with a jack-Fernauslà¶serkabel camera to connect.

I know I'm a patient!
Nevertheless, I need your help please for the cable.

Why is that ?
1) you have a Merlin.
2) BlueTooth ?
3) Nokia N800
4) camera ?

The easiest way is to get a used Canon 350/400/450D with kitlens.
Cheap and ready to use on the standard Merlin rail.
No crown modification needed.
low noise at higher ISO and the Merlin cable can fire the camera.
That's all..
So why this exotic brands ?

Only the D1X and that will be very difficult if not impossible to mount at the NPP on a Merlin head because tthe body is huge with that integral vertical grip. The D1X has a special connector for the wired remote so you would need to cannibalise a cheap remote - for the cable with the special connector - and connect that to (a cable with) a 2.5mm jack.

I know I'm a patient!

Almost beyond treatment.;)

Best treatment IMO - as Bigwade has suggested - would be to go and buy, beg, steal or borrow, a used low end small body Canon DSLR - say a 350D, 400D, 450D (or whatever they are called in the US). They can be triggered with the cable supplied with the Merlin head and require no modification of the Merlin head to set the camera at NPP.

Why is this so?
1) I have Merlin / orion
2) I have a Bluetooth interface
3) I have Mac / Parallels --- is ok!
3a.) I have Nokia N800 (must first install)
4) I already have these cameras from the list

5.) will, if possible, do not buy more camera! (6 cameras, and another about this?

7.) Sony F717 / R1; wired remote jack with 2.5 mm/3-polig
Oly C-8080 has IR remote control
D1X has cable remote control

The only problem: 2.5 mm jack plug has a different PIN assignment!

D1X camera body is too big to be set at NPP (No Parallax Point) on the Merlin head!

I read that Sony F-717 puts power out on remote cable to power the remote so watch out if you try to make cable to connect F-717 to the Merlin head.

BTW I too have quite a collection of 'legacy' (isn't that such a nice euphemism for 'obsolete') compact digital cameras (D1X is a bit of a museum piece these days too) - I know they don't fetch much these days if you try to sell them, but really would be better to sell them - if you need the money - and buy a used Canon DSLR for use with Merlin/Papywizard IMO.

Or, if you have a large collection of Nikon lenses then go for a lower end Nikon DSLR, only downside of the D40 (which I have), D40X, and D60 is that they do not have Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB) and won't automatically focus non AF-S lenses.
