Jeremy, can you make the binary package for MacOS, for the release 2.0.0? Do you need some help? If you want an icon, I can send it to you in svg, or a big png...

iphones do not run MacOS. And as far as I know, there is little chance that Qt will be ported to iphone...

Yes sorry I began on this last week but have been quite busy recently. I will need an icon of some sort, I'll find out what is best.

Stay tuned.

You can download the icon in different sizes from here:

http://trac.gbiloba.org/papywizard/browser/trunk/maemo/icons

(note that the scalable version is the 64x64).

Iphone's do run OSX and programs can be developed using the same tool chain just run through a MacOS ARM compiler at the end

No, as long as Qt won't be ported, and it seems that Nokia don't have any plan to do so.

I don't really get the point to run Papywizard to all devices arround. This is already difficult to have a software running on the 3 main plateforms (thanks to Qt/PyQt), and to find an embedded device which does the trick, without the need to have different code (I don't have more than 20 lines specific to each platforms in the entire code!). We chose Nokia internet tablets, which are cheap, not too difficult to use, and great for this usage. It will certainly be possible to use the new MID devices, which are very close to Nokia (BTW, I think Papywizard 1.x should run on them out-of-the box, as they use GTK as default toolkit, as Nokias do).

So, I don't want to spend too much time to port Papywizard on different plateforms: I prefer adding new features.

BUT, as it is an open-source project, anybody can modify it; so, if you find motivated people to do that, I will be very happy to help them.

Yes, I understand you ! No problem. :)

I'm dreaming of Papywizard on iPhone because of all the possibilities of multitouch for the UI. And since iPhone OS3, we've got more possybilityes to commnicate with other hardware, even with propriatary protocols. http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/

So, the Nokia solution seems very good ! It's just I have to buy an another device. And why have so lots of devices... Cell Phone, iPodTouch, Nokia soon......... ;)

I agree that multitouch is nice, but don't forget you need to specifically design your application to take advantage of it; I don't see how Papywizard could use this feature... Do you have ideas?

And having dedicated devices seems to be annoying, but personnaly, I do prefer. What if you use your phone to drive your head, and run out-of-batteries? You can't make phone calls anymore ;) And what if someone call you while shooting a pano?

And when your multi-function devices breakdown/fail as all devices will in the end you lose all that multi functionality in one hit. That's why I am happy not to have a camera in my phone, and why I'd not want a phone in my camera, or a scanner in my printer let alone an integrated fax.

But then I'm an aged neo-Luddiite in many respects - increasingly averse to novelty for the sake of novelty.

Do we really need netbooks to be made available in a mass of different colours?

Why are high gloss finishes now so prevalent on portable devices for which they are quite impractical?

Are we (still) so primitive that we can still be bought off by bright shiny objects.

Yes. You're right. It could be better to get a device for each need.

Multitouch was in my mind about Timelapses... to make simple to set sequences of deplacement. Ok I'm sure fma38 will find good solution to set it on Nokia device.

This year is very difficult for me, and I can only take a look on the project some times... I don't even have time to test Papywizard :( But you have to know that I'm always very happy to know that you will add complex timelapses fonctionnality.

:)

Are we any nearer being able to run a Papywizard Bluetooth connection from Mac to Merlin?

I am still waiting for my Merlin so I can't do any testing, there is already a question regarding bluetooth. But I will ask what other ways can it be connected as it says Serial - Bluetooth - Ethernet in the program. What is needed to connect to the Merlin with the other 2 methods, sorry if this has been brought up before.

What sort of device do you plan to use on the Merlin head?

This will determine what other forms of connection you might be able to use.

I am not following the question 100%, So I will just try and explain some factors. I am planning to use a 30D and various lenses. I was yes planning to use my mac for starters and maybe later getting a eeePC to connect to it for portability. I was most interested in using a Bluetooth connection for the wireless factor. I have ordered a BlueSMiRF Silver. I am just interested in if and how you can connect to it other than that. For example using a Cat5 cable from my mac to Merlin, what kind of conversion is needed.

If you are using a BlueSmirf or some other Bluetooth-TTL convertor connected to the Merlin the you can only connect to it as a Bluetooth device (not currently supported by Papywizard on the Mac) or if paired with another Bluetooth-RSR32 device connected to your Mac you could connect as a serial connection with the paired BT devices acting as a wireless serial 'cable'.

IMO you'd have been better off using Telskop-Austria's BT-TTL device than BlueSmirf.

Great job, Jeremy! Does anybody tried it?

olihar, you don't need a Merlin head to us it, as there is a simulation mode when not connected to any hardware...
