Setting up my Merlin and USB Adapter

by Viatorus » Tue Mar 18, 2014 1:18 pm

Hey Community,

I have got a merlin panorama head, an USB interface controller and a hand controller. Now I like to setup a simple 360° panorama.

I wrote this xml:
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<papywizard version="c">
    <preset name="Panorama 1">
        <tooltip>
            12 pics @ 0°
        </tooltip>
        <shoot>
           <pict yaw="0" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="30" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="60" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="90" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="120" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="150" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="180" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="210" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="240" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="270" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="300" pitch="0.0" />
           <pict yaw="330" pitch="0.0" />
        </shoot>
    </preset>
</papywizard>

If I load this preset into papywizard it works well. Now I want to use this preset without usb/bluetooth connection to the merlin panorama head (wilderness without pc). Is it possible - how?

Thank you in advance.

What 'USB interface controller' do you have?

Is this something that runs Papywizard?

I am confused.

Hey mediavets,

ATDCUMi USB Interface

Actually I run papywizard over laptop -> usb interface -> merlin.
Is a laptop / device always needed?

Some sort of device is always needed.

The Merlin mount itself is a 'dumb' device.

If you want something smaller and more portable - than say a Windows netbook with a Bluetooth connection - there are three options:

1. Use Papywizard on a Nokia N800 or N810 Internet Tablet; requires the Deltawave Papymerlin Bluetooth-TTL interface device for the Merlin.

2. Use PandroidWiz on an Android device; requires the Deltawave Papymerlin Bluetooth-TTL interface device for the Merlin.

3. Use the T&C Touch Controller:

The advantage of the T&C handheld is: you don´t need BT or WLan. Plug it in and shoot.

see here: http://www.panoneed.com

The small device you can see plugged to the head ist the controller. Abosut the size of a cigarrette pack:

best, Klaus

Well, bad news, thank you anyway.

Is it possible to use the Laptop->ATDCUMi USB Interface->Merlin over command line? Or is there only the papywizard gui out there.

AFAIK Papywizard cannot be run from a command line in that way.

If you have an Android phone or tablet with Bluetooth then the cheapest way to have a portable controller if to use it with the PandroidWiz app. You'll need that Papymerlin Bluetooth interface for the Merlin.

Pandroid Wiz works with Papywizard-compatible presets.

Alternatively Nokia N800 and N810 Internet tablets are relatively cheap via eBay these days.

Where are you located anyway?

Okay, thank you for your fast answer.

I am from Germany. Greetings to you - I will take a roadtrip to the UK next summer. ;)
