Papywizard for Android?

by fma38 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 4:28 pm

Hi there,

I just discovered this very interesting project, Python for Android:

http://python-for-android.readthedocs.org
http://kivy.org
https://github.com/kivy/python-for-android

As I don't own any Android device (nor iOS), I won't start the port of Papywizard for this plateform myself. But if someone is interested to give it a try, I would be very happy to help :)

Papywizard uses a MVC pattern, so model and view are totally independant, and a port using a new toolkit should be easy (I already done that, switching from PyGtk (v1.x) to PyQt (v2.x)). Even if it uses some Qt features in the model, these features can be replaced from either standard python modules, or kivy specific ones.

The current GUI of Papywizard is splitted in 2 main parts: the menus/buttons/dialog boxes for all configuration and standard usage, and the feedback window, showing the shooting progress. The first part should be easy to port; the second may require more work. But this second part is not mandatory, and Papywizard also comes with a label-based widgets GUI showing positions and progress, which can be migrated without much work. So, things can be done step by step.

At the same time, I would also suggest to switch to python3 (needs kivy 1.8).

So, Papywizard3 coming soon?

Well the son of Claude developped a pretty nice version of PW for Android already ;) so is it worth the value to port PW by itself ?
